I scowl down at my list of names in my notebook, one more to do today and he promised that would be it.

But promises don't seem to mean a thing to him anymore.

It says on the page that I'm meeting this Will person at the field side gate at 1:35.

I glance towards the clock, 1:28.

I suppose I'd better get going.

I tug on my hoodie and prop my bag onto my back, taking care in exiting so no one notices.

I trudge along the field as the bitter cold threatens to shatter me and make out a figure squatted down by the gate.

As I approach he hands me an envelope and I trade with the plastic sleeve in my bag.

"All there?" He asks briefly, tucking the sleeve into his pocket.

I nod hurriedly and speed back towards the school, feeling the was of money beneath the sheet of paper.

Sometimes I just wish someone cared a little more than the occasional hug or "hello" if they see me in a hallway.

Maybe somebody does. Just maybe somebody cares enough that they could help.

That goddam awful step-dad with his alcohol issues and his dodgey deals that he forces me to join in on

'lend a helping hand' he calls it.

Well its not very bloody helpful to anyone.

I wish I had a normal home. With a normal family. Not a crappy little flat with black out windows and smoke filled bedrooms.
