All Aria could see was darkness. For the first time since she had opened her eyes as a babe, Aria experienced what it would be like to lose her eyesight.
She felt every single blade of grass, tiny pebble, premature branch, and fallen leaf that pushed up against the soles of her feet and threatened to break her skin. Having worn nothing but the finest shoes for most of her life, never before had she encountered the harshness of the ground.
At that moment, Aria wondered what her brother would say. First, he would scream at his presumed idiocy of Aria's current situation. For having the impertinence to get captured. For costing him his priced alliance. Second, he would laugh. That the once beautiful princess of the Azurian Kingdom had been reduced to nothing more than a prisoner. That her fair and delicate skin had become bloodied and dirtied, left almost unrecognizable. Oh, would he laugh.
Aria felt the ground underneath her morph from a grassy path to one of hard stone.
'Where are they taking me?' she wondered.
Unbeknownst to Aria, she had walked into yet another cave. It was hidden behind a magical spell, preventing those that were not welcomed from entering.
As soon as the soldiers made it in, torches around the cave ignited on their own fruition. The fire cast shadows on the dark midnight stone that composed its walls. The obsidian that held up the structure was unworldly— a gift from the heavens themselves. Over the years, a series of tunnels had been carved into them.
The soldiers made quick work of crashing down on the ground, happy to be free to remove their armor after such a long journey.
Yet, General Amaria did not share in their relaxed state. Her eyes were cemented on tightly to the human that stood aimlessly at the center of the cave.
"Take her to my resting chambers. General Amaria, please see to it she gets cleaned up," Elvin spoke.
"You want me to babysit the human?" Amaria questioned.
"She can be quite crafty. I trust you won't let your guard down."
"I hope you know what you are doing. Your father won't be happy about this." General Amaria grunted out in dismay, before wrapping her hand tightly around Aria's right arm. Harsher than she needed to, Amaria dragged Aria down the path of one of the tunnels. All Aria could do was stumble forward and try to keep up with her pace.
Eventually, they reached a large double door. It was carved out of the same material that made up the bedrock. Amaria pushed through them like the heavy rock material was nothing more than a feather to her and tossed Aria inside.
Aria stumbled forward, crashing down onto her knees. New scrapes were added to the list of injuries on her skin. Amaria walked next to her, towering over her kneeling form. A look of disgust adorned her face as she harshly pulled the blindfold from Aria's eyes.
