Old Scout HQ
Over the next few days we went over basic training such as sparring and ODM as well as discussed Eren's ability and any new ideas or theories on the matter. Commander Hange made sure to 'borrow' Eren whenever she could, not caring about whether Captain Levi could tag along and do his job in babysitting my brother. Then again, she was clearly the type of person who couldn't give a shit on what others thoughts of her were.
A day before the expedition Petra had been called for by Commander Erwin to join him in the choosing ceremony of the trainees. Commander Hange and Commander Mike also accompanied the two during the event, which for us meant that we didn't need to worry about any excessive Titan ranting from Hange. It certainly was a relief.
The next day we went out in the field with our horses ready to move out and meet the rest of the Scouts back at the current HQ. We were looking over the formation for the expedition later today. Gunther informed us about the other squad's rolls in the formation, as well as our own. Our squad was located behind the centre rank which Gunther pointed out to us and is the safest part of the formation.
Gunther explained the goal of this expedition. "This expedition is meant to be short, as it's also a test run to see if we can get you to Shiganshina or not." He stared at Eren who avoided his gaze.
"I still don't know what to do with this ability of mine," Eren said, looking down in thought.
"Did you understand what the commander said to you and your sister back then?" Gunther asked out of the blue. I quickly recalled the memory of the commander asking that strange question between me and Eren.
"No..." Eren replied while I simply shook my head. "Do any of you know what he meant?"
Everyone had the same answer and replied with simple "nope"s or with the shake of their head. Oluo, who chose to stand beside his horse, decided that saying no and moving on wouldn't suffice for him. After he said his first sentence he was cut off by Gunther.
"It's possible that there's another goal to this operation. But the commander decided that it doesn't need to be explained to the soldiers. In which case, leaving and coming back is all we should focus on." He stood up and looked down at specifically Eren. "Have faith in the commander."
We were dismissed afterwards and got back on our horses, heading towards the HQ. However now that the subject of the commander's odd words has come to light, I couldn't keep out the thought of what he said might mean. Was he onto something or was he just acting suspicious and paranoid?
After our arrival at the current HQ both me and Eren were sent to take our entire squadron's horses into the stables. I tended to the horses needs while Eren dealt with the rest of the shit, literally.
"You stink, Eren." I pushed him away from me after he tried to creep up behind me. We had both finished what we needed to and walked out of the stables. Oluo stood outside with a mug in hand, probably filled with either coffee or tea.
"Wait, is that...?" I overheard Eren gasp and noticed the new group of people that were walking past. The new trainees had arrived and among the crowd were a handful of familiar faces.
