Sleeping is a fantastic way to quickly pass the many hours of nighttime in what only feels like a few minutes. However, it's never been on my side. If I feel sleepy, I tend to take power naps to avoid slipping into REM sleep and experiencing the worst part of dozing off: dreaming.

Most of the time I'm able to recall my dreams either because it was an odd nightmare which just stuck to me or because it was based on a memory. I'd like to think I don't have that many bad memories but the dreamworld does tend to twist and bend the truth. It also doesn't help that these nightmares are becoming more frequent.

This particular night was the night before the operation to recapture Annie and although my tired, baggy eyes were begging for required hours of sleep I refused to give in. I couldn't even take the risk of taking one of my power naps in case I do accidentally slip too far into the dreamworld. On nights like these I'd read a (F/G) book to keep my mind at bay. I'd occasionally find myself laying on top of the book I was reading and realise that I had slept mid sentence. However, since my mind would always become focused on the different worlds written in those pages before slipping out of consciousness, I'm usually able to avoid the nightmares and memories.

I lit the small lantern that was neatly placed on the bedside table  and headed down the hallway towards the storage room. Actually, I'm more than certain that the storage room had previously been used as some form or 'practice room' within the castle before extra things were stored in there. The size of this room was almost similar to the dining hall, just a few metres smaller.

Since the captain has a knack for keeping everything beyond spotless it's given me time to memorise where certain items were in each room. I recently found a bookshelf which held a compendium of books which varied in sizes to page amounts and genres.

Once I got to the storage room where the bookshelf stood hidden behind a few pieces of equipment, I used my index finger to help with quickly skimming over the spines of each book for the author's name and book title. There were a few books which caught my eye but there was one particular book which I recognised immediately, causing my finger to freeze as I stared at the familiar book. I hesitantly took it off the shelf and quietly made my way back to my room, shutting and locking the door behind me.

Luckily there were several spare work desks left in the storage room which I had recently brought to my room, specifically for the purpose of reading at without wax accidentally dripping onto the bedsheets. I'm sure the captain would behead me otherwise.

After placing the book on the desk, I swiftly made my way over to the bedside table and opened a drawer which had a small case tied close with a (F/C) ribbon. I took it out, quite surprised by the ribbon which was used to keep the case shut.

'So that's where I last put it. And Eren thought I was terrible at caring for my personal belongings.'

The (F/C) knot was easily undone and I opened the case to reveal round glasses. Pinching the frame between the two eyeglass, I carefully picked it up and took out a cloth to clean the lenses before popping them on.
