"Give me a boost, Scottie." The werewolf gave Maya a confused look. "Unlike you and Mr. Alpha, I don't have superhuman physical abilities. Therefore, you're giving my ass a boost because there is no way I can reach that ladder." The mermaid clarified.
It was impressive how oblivious the McCall could be at times. But, as requested, he knelt down and interlocked his fingers to help lift the girl. Maya grunted as she pulled herself up, really regretting not working harder on pull-ups during gym class with Coach. Her converse eventually hit the bottom rung and allowed her to hurry up in Derek's wake, leaving Scott to follow behind her. The three supernatural creatures climbed their way to the roof and then shimmied their way down the shaft that Stiles had marked for them. Inside it was dark and extremely close quarters with three people stuffed in the space between the wall and the vault.
"You know," Maya was breathing slightly quicker than normal. "I wasn't claustrophobic until this very moment. Can you pick up the pace Derek?"
The only way she could tell that he was glaring at her was from the glowing red hue cutting through the darkness in her direction. It was hard to remember that those weren't the same eyes that used to take up residency in nightmares. Maya's nerves were successfully set on edge now. Not even a week back in Beacon Hills and she was already running head first into danger. The rapid beating up her heart calmed ever so slightly when Scott reached over and gently grabbed her hand - a nice reminder that he was always watching her back.
"Now isn't the time to be flirting." Derek dryly commented between punches.
Both teens rolled their eyes at the ridiculous statement as watched the Alpha work. Stiles hadn't been exaggerating about the little room allotted for punching through solid concrete. Thankfully, enhanced Alpha werewolf strength seemed to be doing the trick. Spiderweb cracks expanded across the stretch of wall. Fractures in the infrastructure created minuscule beams of light to cut through the pitch darkness. Each punch widened the spaces and brought in more light and air, until one final strike burst through into the vault. The werewolves and mermaid carefully lifted themselves through the hole in the wall and around the chunks of concrete littering the floor.
"Boyd?"
A soft growl echoed off of the tiles as Boyd stepped out of the shadows. His claws were out, but his face had yet to shift as Derek attempted to talk to him. Scott pulled out his buzzing phone while the Alpha dealt with his Beta; leaving Maya to split her time glancing between the three werewolves.
"Stiles this isn't a good time." Maya couldn't hear what Stiles was saying on the other end since mermaids weren't blessed with inhuman hearing, but from the look on Scott's face it wasn't good news. "What does that mean?"
Derek was still occupied with a feral looking Boyd, "We're here to get you out."
"What's wrong?" Maya asked after casting a glance to the light shining down from the full moon.
Scott looked over to Derek. "We've got a problem. A really big problem."
Before he could elaborate, a new body stepped out from behind Boyd. Moving out of the shadows, it became obvious that whoever it was, they were not Erica. Maya couldn't fight off the sinking feeling in her heart that Isaac had been right about the blonde Beta being dead.
"Cora?"
The girl looked up at the mention of her name. "Derek get out now."
Maya went to take a step toward the exit and cursed at the sight of a familiar black powder encompassing the perimeter of the vault. "That might be a problem." The girl announced as the door creaked open, spilling bright light into the dim room.
