"Daring!"

Turning around, he was met once more with his beloved, soon-to-be darling.

"Hello, [Y/n], how are you this fine morning." He waved towards you as you quickly made your way over to him.

"Um, yeah, I'm doing okay, I guess. But um-"

"Wonderful!" Daring brought his arm around your shoulders and started walking with you following. "Now, let us make haste towards the library. Apparently, Apple needed us to work on a project together, part of the program you know, and lucky us, I made sure we got a fun one."

"Daring wait." You had practiced talking much quieter in the morning. Usually Daring's voice was quite loud, probably something to do with him trying to be knightly. You weren't even sure if he could hear you over himself. But, he did slow down to a stop and turned to face you with a look of concern.

"Yes?" He held your shoulders still, and even thought it wasn't really a tight hold, you still felt a bit suffocated and anxious. You looked down at his shoes as you spoke.

"I-just... I really need to apologize for everything that happened the other day. I was really rude and it was wrong of me to assume something-"

"[Y/n]." You met his gaze. For a split second, something seemed off about it, but then you were met once again with the Charming boy you thought you knew. "There's no need to apologize for such things. If anything, I should be the one apologizing. I didn't mean to make anything uncomfortable or weird between us. I hope we can go back to being wonderful friends."

Were the two of you ever really good friends? Acquaintances, sure, but you weren't too sure about friends.

But, this was a way you could make it up to him. If Daring wants to be good friends with you, then you could let it happen, right. You'd do everything in your power to not disappoint him.

You smiled at him and gently held one of his hands on your shoulders, "Yeah, I would really like that for us."

He continued to stare at you and give you his dazzling smile. After a few seconds of that, you cleared your throat to try and break this up before it got awkward.

Well, at least not more awkward.

"Uh, so you said something about a project."

"Wha- oh right!" He finally turned back to the direction of the library and held onto you hand, "Let's get going then."

Walking down the aisles of the library, you realized you still didn't know what the heck your project was about. Dragging your fingers along the spines of the books as you passed, you turned towards Daring, only to see that he had already been staring at you. Had he been looking the whole time.

"What?"

"Oh, nothing." He turned the other way to inspect the books on his side of the walkway.

You stopped in your tracks and read a couple of the titles in front of you, "So what's this project about?"

"Yes, the project," he paused and looked away for a second before looking back at you, "It's about true love and happily ever afters, and... the correlation between the two."

"Oh, so maybe we should interview you and Apple, ha ha." You tried lightening the mood with your joke, but Daring wasn't laughing.

He put one hand behind his head as he gave you an awkward smile, "Actually, Apple and I aren't dating currently."

"Oh, weird, I thought you two were definitely an item. You know, with being in the same fairy tale and all."

"Yeah, well, we figured that we'd have all of our lives to be together in the future, so we stayed apart for our school days."

Feeling a big guilty about bringing that up, and not knowing how Daring felt about it, you looked back to the books in front of you and tried to find anything about love or happy endings.

Eventually, the two of you gathered a few books that you thought fit into your theme.

You went through them and agreed upon which you thought should stay in and which shouldn't. Eventually you came across a book from your pile.

"Echo and Narcissus? Doesn't this story involve one of the characters not reciprocating the other's feelings?" Daring held the book in his hand with a confused stare.

"Oh, yeah, I grabbed that one so we could maybe also show how unrequited love can be destructive and not lead to any happiness to both parties in the relationship."

"Hmm, clever thinking."

Why would you bring this book to him. Your project was about love. Perhaps this was a sign.

That's right. It had to be!

Why else would you give him a book about a woman in love with a man who was too blind by his own beauty to see her love for him.

Clearly you were asking him to rescue you and give you the happy ending you deserved. The happy ending filled with love.

A life where you would never have to worry about anything.

His pillow talk to himself at night at first seemed a bit insane. You could take care of yourself, and he could just confess when you were ready. But now he realized, that you wanted him to help you.

You wanted him to be your knight in shining armor.

You wanted him to be your prince.

Your love.

Your everything.

That's why you slipped this book into the pile.

With that set in mind, Daring continued to work on the project with you. But, he was thinking about all the amazing things the two of you would get to do once he finally made his move.
