Things have felt a bit, weird...?
Well, at least that's the best way to explain it. People at school had kind of started ignoring you. You had hardly noticed at first, but it became painfully clear when you would sit down at a table for lunch, not even sitting close to the others, yet they'd feel the need to get up and leave.
Next thing you know, you can't find anyone to interact with, no one will partner up with you even if there's no one left, and you've become even more of a loner than you were before.
The only person who seemed to treat you like, well, a person, was Daring.
He would constantly be by your side whenever you didn't have anyone else. He'd make sure you were okay, he would act like a friend.
If you were being completely honest, he was probably you're only friend nowadays.
He had offered to either come over to your house again for dinner, or for you to come over to his, however, you had constantly declined his offers. You hated seeing his disappointed face, but you honestly weren't ready to face his parents again. The belittling you had to face was too much to handle, and you were still embarrassed about Daring seeing how you lived. He would constantly insist that there was nothing wrong, but you couldn't help yourself. He lived in what was practically a mansion, and had so much money he could buy his mansion a mansion if he wanted to. Meanwhile, you lived in a humble little house that also served as your work environment, and you would often skip meals just to make sure you didn't put too much strain on your family's finances.
To put it simply, you were from two different worlds and you weren't ready to step back into his.
But, that didn't stop Daring's constant hope that you'd eventually agree.
"I promise, it won't be as bad as last time."
"I don't think so Daring, I can only assume your mother would only find more things to critique me about."
"No that's the thing, she won't even be there."
"I-why wouldn't she be at your house for a family dinner?"
"Well-"
Any reasons given didn't matter. You didn't want to be reminded of the high society life you'd never have. You were ready to reject Daring once again, but he spoke over you, "Alright well, what if we just have dinner, you know, just the two of us?" He stepped in front of you to stop you from walking away from him. He gave you one of his iconic smiles, but this time, it had a nervous hint to it. He seemed very hopeful.
You sighed heavily, "I don't know, Daring, you know I still need to help out my parents and whatnot."
"Oh is that all?" He whipped out his iMirror, "I'll call them, I'm sure they won't miss you for one night."
You gaped at him, "Wait, wait. You have my parents' numbers!?"
"Of course, you don't?"
"No of course I do, I'm their child, but why do you-"
He pressed one of his fingers up to your lips, "Shh, it's ringing."
You had tried to grab the phone from him, so you could hang up and continue demanding why the spell he had those numbers, but he continued to move away and keep the phone out of your reach. Curse his agility!
You couldn't hear any of the words that were exchanged, but eventually, Daring let out a mighty, "Huzzah! Wonderful, I'll let her know. Lovely hearing from you by the way, we'll call soon!" Then he promptly hung up.
"You're hanging out with me after school!"
"Daring, I already told you, I can't-"
"Nonsense, you heard that? They totally agreed. Nothing to worry about. Now come along, we have reservations to make."
