The classroom door was left open by the majority of your classmates as they left for the day. You and Akaashi stayed behind to finish cleaning the classroom.

That's weird, he doesn't normally stay this long.

"Hello Y/N san, it seems that we are the last classmates."

"You're right Akaashi-san, lets finish up quick so we can leave soon."

You  finish tidying up your side of the classroom and you started cleaning the long dry erase board.

" Y/N-san, are you in any clubs?"

Suspicion crept through your thoughts.

Why are you making small talk with me?

Your stomach did a small flip.

Relax, maybe he just wants to talk to pass the time.

"No, are you? I mean, I've seen you in passing with the volleyball club."

"You're right, I'm in volleyball club with a friend we have in common."

A Friend? Wait, is he talking about Bokuto san?

"He's not my friend, I don't know him."

Akaashi stopped to look at you as you were cleaning.

"Y/n san, do you think you can become his friend?"

You stopped cleaning the dry erase board to turn to him.

Your hand went to your hip as you shifted your weight to your more dominating half of your body.

"Why should I? He's loud, obnoxious, has no concern for others."

He started fiddling with his fingers as you listed negative aspects of his senior.

"True, Bokuto-san has some of these qualities, but to say he has no concern for others would be a  wide misconception."

Your eyebrow raised as he continued.

"He does care about others and I'm sure you aren't a stranger to other people's incorrect opinions of you."

Hes not wrong... you looked to the side grimacing at your words being thrown back to you.

"Okay he cares about others, so why can't  both of you respect my wishes and leave me alone?"

Within a microsecond his once emotionless facial features betrayed his thoughts as he raised an eyebrow toward your harsh question. He ran his hands though his messy hair and sighed quietly through his nose before he spoke again.

"I'm not sure of Bokuto san's thoughts , however I admit he has good taste when chose to pursue you."

"You're one of the most genuine, hardest working students in our class."

You had a knack to disregard flattery from a mile away. If this was anyone else you would've dismissed the compliment completely. The problem? This wasn't just anyone. This was the top student of your class and the sincerity of his words found a way through to you.

Except Akaashi wasn't asking you to be his friend, he was asking you to become Bokuto's friend. Someone you clearly made your mind up about.

"Akaashi san I-" your reply interrupted by your phone's ping notification sound, instantly reminding you of  work and  to end this conversation with Akaashi.

"Akaashi san I'm a busy student and..."

With a soured look you stared at a message from your boss and answered it quickly, continuing with your excuse.
