Chapter 9

The last bit of summer went by without any problems, not that Harry was told of any anyway. Lucius and Narcissa did have issues when they went public about them adopting Harry. A lot of witches and wizards were fighting them.

One wizard, in particular, was slowly getting on Lucius' nerves. If it wasn't for Severus and Minerva helping them, he would have used the killing curse already. In the end, even with Dumbledore's interference, the Wizarding World finally got over the fact that Harry James Potter was now officially Harry James Lillian Malfoy.

Severus and Minerva were named his godparents, and so far, they have taken to the rolls. They have spoiled both boys over the summer, buying each boy anything they so much as even looked at. Draco now has an extensive collection of Quidditch memorabilia, while Harry had a bed full of stuffed animals.

With the help of his family, Harry slowly started to open up more. He was still scared of most things like sudden movements and loud noises, so the family was careful around him. He was even opening up about what had happened to him growing up with the Dursley family.

They did notice that when Harry was comfortable he would act much younger than he was, but they never mentioned it in fear of him stopping and withdrawing once more.

His dog, Grim, as the boys named him, was his constant shadow. Wherever Harry goes, Grim and Hedwig are sure to be right behind him. It was going to be a problem when the boys went back to school. That was until Lucius brought it up with Minerva one night when she was over for a family meal.

She had merely mentioned to Lucius that because of Grim helping with Harry's emotional state and the physical help he gave Harry, he could come to Hogwarts as a service animal. As for Hedwig, she was allowed to do as she wanted. There was no rule at Hogwarts that the student's owls had to remain in the Owlery at all times.

She started getting permission to have Grim as soon as she left that night. Before she left, though, she collected all the evidence she would need to show the board of directors why this was necessary.

In the end, with the help of Severus, Minerva, and the family healer, Grim had a special tag placed on his collar that indicated him as a medical assist tool for Harry. The tag had the added bonus of having multiple protection charms on it for Grim's safety.

No one, not even Dumbledore, could send Grim away. Harry had been extremely excited when he was told the news, and his excitement made Lucius feel better about the new school year.

Just maybe both his sons will have a good year.

The morning finally came for the boys to go back to school.

Harry was nervous, but he was trying to put on a brave face, though his family noticed immediately.

Harry looks up at his parents, Narcissa cupping his cheek gently. "You will be just fine. Remember, your uncle Severus is there and your grandma Minnie. They will not let anything happen to you. If you need anything at all, you go to them." She smiles, feeling a little better when Harry smiles back at her.

She gives both her sons a great big hug before straightening up. Lucius steps forward and hugs them as well before stepping back, ignoring the looks they were getting.

"Remember we are a floo call away, and you each have a two-way mirror if you need us. Now go on. Go find a compartment and have a great trip. Remember the snacks in your bags, and Harry, remember to feed Grim on the train and do not forget to take your potions." He starts to back up but stops when Hedwig swoops down to land on Harry's shoulder. "Oh yes. Do not forget about the treats Dobby made for Hedwig. He was quite proud of those."
