Derek, without thinking, let himself drift to sleep in Stiles' bed after their night together. When he woke the next morning it was a bit past dawn. The sun was raising behind Stiles' head like a halo and Derek remembers thinking he had never seen anything in the world so beautiful. He took his time to tuck a strand of his longer hair away behind his ear. Even in his sleep Stiles leaned into the touch, a slight grin appearing on his face.
He slowly stirred awake, his eye lids slowly fluttering open to reveal the honey brown iris' hiding behind them "Good morning"
"Hi" he responded, voice raspy, tracing a warm hand along Derek's chest. The gesture was carried out so effortlessly Derek felt he had done it a million times before. Stiles just stared at the man, almost as longingly as Derek gazed upon him. He ghosted his fingers over Derek's lips cherishing them, knowing what they were capable of. Then as fast as it was there, his smile was fading "You should probably get back to your room" He whispered into the air between them.
"Trying to get rid of me?"
He stifled a laugh, hiding his face into Derek's chest "No, of course not. I just don't want your mother finding us in...compromising positions"
"I don't care" Derek responded before throwing himself on top of his boyfriend? Derek didn't know what the title was, he's just happy it wouldn't be 'stranger' anymore. Stiles flashed Derek that smile he loved so much before he closed the gap and pressed his lips to Stiles' glossy pick ones. Just because he could, because Derek wanted him and because Stiles felt the same. It wasn't too erotic for a morning kiss. It was just a long peck that was more smile than lips.
"Derek" Stiles began, as he caressed his face "Go shower, get changed and I'll see you at breakfast"
Reluctantly, he ended up slipping his shirt over his head and left him with a kiss. Derek didn't want to admit it but he probably should go get ready for the day. He just wasn't ready to leave him, not yet.
He made it to his room on the other end of the mansion in record time and no interruptions. But he found out why. His mother was already in his room waiting for him. Her long black hair was slicked back into a tight, high ponytail and her arms were folded across her chest. She was pacing slowly throughout his room, not really upset just curious.
"Mom"
"Der, hi honey" She greeted, and met him with a hug "I was so worried. I came to check on you last night and you weren't in your bed. Then I came this morning and still you were gone"
"I'm fine mom. I'm still alive and breathing"
She pulled back to observe her son suspiciously "-and still in last nights clothes"
"Oh I uh-"
"So you and Erica are-"
"What! Ew no mom-just no"
"Well. You obviously were with someone, tell your mother"
"It's too early for this conversation" he attempted to move around her, but her gazed followed him all the same.
"I don't care what time it is. I feel like we hardly talk with you off to college" she admitted before straightening out her dress and sitting neatly on his bed. He thought he could wait her out, but her knew how stubborn she could be. So when she patted the spot beside her he took it "Talk"
"I can't tell you who he is"
"You know I love you no matter what I-"
"No mom it's not like that it's...it's just complicated"
"Is he in the closet?" she pressed.
"No"
"Does he not want a relationship" His mother was stubborn, and liked to be looped in with her children's lives. All that meant was that she would press until Derek broke.
"No he does, but-"
"Does he like the family?" She was searching his eyes as if she were probing, trying to find the right questions to ask.
He practically is family Derek thought "Yes he does"
"Then what's so complicated?"
"I-I don't want to get either of us in trouble"
She placed a hand over her chest in a quick gasp "Derek Hale is he underaged?"
"What! No, mom... it's Stiles" he admitted suddenly, letting the name hang in thin air "It's Stiles okay"
"Derek Hale-"
"Look, mom, I know the rules okay. But this is Stiles we're talking about"
"Stiles is also an orphan here. There are regulations in order for a reason. I can't turn a blind eye every time you decide you want to sleep with an orphan"
"I am not sleeping with the orphans!" He bit back, his voice laced with venom. His mother wasn't getting it "I'm only sleeping with Stiles. I love Stiles, just him"
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"I didn't know he felt the same, not until recently. So I didn't see a point in broadcasting my feelings, but as soon as he told me he loved me too there was no doubt in my mind, I wanted to be with him"
"Derek I could get into big trouble for this"
"Mom you don't have to tell the board. You can pretend I never told you. Stiles is graduating soon, and we'll move out-"
"Wait 'we'? You two are already talking about living together?"
"Wow. You really don't approve of this" Derek stated in disbelief.
"No honey that's not it" she soothed him, grabbing for his hands "It's just this is a lot sprung on me right now, I'm just trying to wrap my head around it, that's all"
"I meant it mom. I really do love him" She smiled lovingly before bringing her youngest son in for a hug.
She left him alone to sit on his bed staring into space and replaying the last twenty four hours. Derek was excited, overwhelmed and scared all at once. And he was still trying to figure out how that could be.
After another shower and a change of clothes Derek finally felt ready to start his day, and it was already noon. Derek didn't trust himself to go back to Stiles' room, not yet at least. He'd see the ruffled sheets and the plane ticket he threw into the garbage before he left and would be reminded of the night before. He'd think about the sweet moans the boy made and his soft skin as it rubbed against his own. So he couldn't be alone with Stiles at the moment, there were too many people in the house and he just didn't trust himself. So, set off for the kitchen, a smile on his face.
