Once upon a time, there was a childless couple
Who were never satisfied with what they had.
Everyone in their city knew about their nature,
And how the two of them were always sad.
A happy goblin heard all the gossip about them,
And decided to check if the rumors were true.
On a sunny afternoon, he visited the two of them.
Everyone was right; the couple was very blue.
He asked what was wrong, and they said, "Well,
We are not hungry or poor; we are not rich enough."
The goblin said that he didn't have a house
Or anything good to eat, but life was not rough."We can't be happy," the woman said as she
Quietly sang a depressing yet beautiful song.
He gave that miserable couple a chicken who
Laid golden eggs so they could be happy for long.
They were shocked, and they were thrilled.
All their financial problems were gone for good.
The goblin left, and they waited for the chicken
To lay many valuable eggs that the couple would
Treasure as long as they lived. The day ended
And the couple's sadness was close to none.
They went to check if the chicken laid the egg,
And they were angry to see only one.
"Honey, this wouldn't last long," the husband
Commented because he wanted much more.
The wife was quiet then she smirked as she
Told her plan to cut up the chicken before
She laid the next egg so that they could
Take all of them at once. They did what
They wanted to do; the chicken died.
The couple grinned as they checked, but
There were no more eggs inside the chicken,
The two of them screamed and cried.
The goblin laughed and shook his head,
For true happiness comes from the inside.
