~ ~ Chapter Twelve ~ ~
Amberly sat at the kitchen table with a worried look on her face as her eyes followed me back and forth, she had been trying to distract me ever since last night, not even sleep would come to me, she rang Marty and said I wouldn't be able to make it in to work tonight and that she wouldn't be able to cover for me either, since that was the first thing Marty asked because she has tonight off.
Glancing at my reflection in a mirror hanging near the fridge I groaned, I had huge black bags under my eyes and they were bloodshot from all the crying I had been doing and the non existent sleep ever since Dougy's phone call. I was stressed, scared and freaking out.
Looking at the clock I could see it was two in the afternoon already, "Where the hell is he?" I hissed to myself.
Amberly sighed, "Just sit down please, all your pacing is giving me head spins." she muttered in a soft tone.
I shot her a look which I regretted instantly and felt bad for, "Sorry." I grumbled. She smiled softly back and said it was okay.
Just then there was a loud knock on the door, making me jump into the air as Amberly rushed to the door and opened it, I could see Baden through the lounge room from where I stood and immediately my eyes narrowed at him.
He was looking at Amberly though and hadn't noticed me yet, "Where's my girl?" he asked gruffly, still not one hundred percent on board with her when he didn't think I was around.
"I'm not your girl Baden!" I snapped angrily, shouting at him which caused his head to snap over and face me, his eyes widen in slight shock and then he stepped past Amberly, taking long strides over to where I stood, eyeing me up and down, "What happened to you? You look like crap Leila!" he demanded.
I was already on the edge and being told I looked like crap made me snap, I slung my arm back and pulled it forward quicker than he noticed and I slapped him straight across the face, "Stuff you!" I screamed angrily as tears formed in my eyes as a wave of different emotions swept through me again. I hated how easily he made me cry!
He looked stunned, then anger took over, "Why the hell did you just bitch slap me!" he shouted loudly, then stopped as he took me in again with his eyes and pulled his hand up, cupping my face instantly and wiping away my tears with his thumb but they were falling faster than he could wipe, "I'm sorry for yelling at you," he immediately responded, "What is going on?" he asked in a soft and caring tone.
A sob escaped my lips, "Why would you not tell me? I have the right to know that he is awake and walking around!" I cried as I hit him pathetically in the chest while subconsciously leaning in closer to him as I did.
His big hands caught my wrists instantly and he pulled me in right up against his chest and wrapped his arms around me, one hand resting on the back of my head as my body shook with my tears, I couldn't hold it back anymore but being here, in his arms, made me feel safe, like I could take on the world as long as his arms were around me and I broke down.
"I'm going to throttle Dougy!" he hissed as he rested his chin on top of my head, I gave a choked laugh as I shook my head into his chest, this wasn't helping and he realized it, "Hey." he soothed, "I won't let anything ever happen to you again Leila. I promise you that you will be safe from him."
I sniffed softly as I wiped my eyes, embarrassed at my little outburst, why does he have this stupid effect over me?
"How long have you known?" I asked quietly, my voice hitching a little still.
