kisa.

"what should we name it?" atsumu asked as he carried the small plastic bag with the fish inside of it. i shrugged, glancing towards the animal.

"i can't tell if it's male or female." i replied, inspecting the bright orange fish that was lazily swimming in circles.

"let's name it kitten." he said, and i burst out laughing.

"oh my god, you can't call a fish kitten! that's like naming a dog tree." i exclaimed, and he pouted, upset that i had rejected his name.

we bickered on a name for the fish until we reached the gym. i smiled when i saw suna. he didn't look mad, so maybe that was a good sign.

"suna!" i called, jogging over to the blocker who was stretching with a gray-haired male.

"hey, kis. i see you actually showed up today." he said, looking up at my from where he sat on the floor. i frowned, flicking his forehead

"i told you in my voicemail, my aunt wanted me to come straight home. but i'm here now." i replied, and he gave me a tiny smile. it was rare for suna to smile in public, let alone with his teammates.

"let's go tell coach you'll be applying for the manager position." atsumu said, taking my hand in his and dragging me to the bench where a man, who i presumed was the coach, was standing.

"oh, hello! you must be kisa. i'm coach kurosu." he said with a smile. before i could question how he knew my name, he continued,

"suna has mentioned you to me several times before. i hope you're as reliable as he claims you are." i smiled, feeling very happy that suna talked about me to his team.

"i promise not to let you or the team down, sir." i replied, and he nodded in approval.

"and i'm going to hold you to that. let's get started with practice, shall we?"

a painful two hours later, coach kurosu dismissed the team to help clean and get changed to go home.

as i grabbed a broom to sweep the floor, i felt someone tap my shoulder. i turned to see the captain smiling at me.

"hello. kisa, right?" he asked, and i nodded, setting the broom down so i could put my attention on him.

"i'm the captain, shinsuke kita. know we didn't get to talk before practice started, so i was thinking i could walk you home? i'd like to get to know you, since you're going to be managing my team." he said, making my heart race.

first atsumu calls me kitten, now the captain wants to walk me home? what next, i meet some hot ace from another school?

"oh, thank you for your offer, kita-san, but i don't want to trouble you." i said, and he shook his head.

"oh no, it wouldn't be any trouble at all. i like to take walks after practice." he said, and i nodded slowly, giving him a smile.

"okay, i think i'll take you up on that offer."

after we had made our plans, i helped the team clean the gym pretty fast. i was excited to walk home with kita.

"kisa! ready to go?" he called as i grabbed my school bag. i nodded, jogging so i could catch up with the captain who was standing in the gym's doorway. the other boys had left earlier while i stayed with kita to make sure the gym was in tip-top shape.

"you're a second year, right? i saw you walk in with atsumu earlier." kita said as we started our walk to my house.

"mhm. atsumu's way different than how i imagined him." i said, glancing towards the captain.

"really? how did you imagine him?" he asked in curiosity.

"kinda like this big, scary, mean volleyball player who didn't have time for anything besides his club." i shrugged, and kita let out a laugh.

"honestly, i don't think you're that far off." he said, making both of us burst out laughing. we reached my house shortly after, much to my dismay.

"this is my stop. thank you for walking me home, kita-san." i said, and he smiled.

"of course. let me know if you need somebody to walk home with again." he said, patting the top of my head as he continued down the sidewalk. i watched his silhouette on the concrete until i couldn't see in the darkness.

maybe this manager position will be better than i imagined.
