*ATTENTION!* *WARNING!*
This "novel" is based on my imagination and the work of Veronica Roth. I guess you could call it a FanFiction. This is simply a remake of the novel "Divergent," because I loved it. It's based on a character I created in the Divergent world. This story also includes characters and scenes from the movie and book, but with a new perspective. When I watched the movie, and I know I might be called crazy, I was SERIOUSLY attracted to Eric. I know he's one of the bad guys, but I thought he was REALLY hot. So, when I refer to him in the book, picture Eric from the movie in this. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this new twist on the dystopian romance/adventure story.
Also, if you don't like descriptive love scenes, let me warn you: there's a VERY descriptive love scene in one chapter. The only other descriptive love is the kissing scenes. I also have other descriptions of romance stuff (lol) but you'll just have to read it. I hope you enjoy!
Prologue: The Invitation
I stared at the blank field of green grass, completely focused on the task at hand. I was watching for rebels, the people that threatened to destroy the Faction System. I squinted, attempting to see through the thick, dark hues of the grass. Nothing. I sighed heavily, aggregated that we hadn't found anything for eight years. I guess they were hiding, afraid the Dauntless would blow them away, or shoot them. "They have the right to be afraid. We have the right technology to just drop their sorry-" I lost my thought as Que stepped from the metal door that led up on the roof.
"Sorry, Sierra, but you're needed in the Main Room. Mr. DuBlack wants to see you," Que said, looking at me with an "I'm-sorry-our-pain-in-the-neck-supervisor-needs-you" look. I let out another heavy sigh, stood up, and jumped down to the second floor of stairs below me, attached to the side of the building with no hesitation.
Before I entered the window of the second floor down, Que called, "One day you're gonna jump off something and break every bone in your body!"
"It'll be worth the thrill," I called back to him, rolling my eyes as I crawled through the window to Mr. DuBlack's "office." It was actually just a white room with a black leather couch, a desk, a computer, and a mirror in it. "Breathtaking," I thought sarcastically.
Mr. DuBlack stared at me with his black, soulless eyes. "Sierra, don't you know how to use a door? Dear God, I'm glad you're leaving. Now you won't crawl through my-" I interrupted him.
"What? I'm leaving? Why? Is it because I jump on the stairwells on the side of the building? Is it-" Mr. DuBlack held up a hand, silencing me.
"No, it's not because you did anything. You know that a lot of new Initiates showed up at Dauntless, right?" I nodded. "Well, some of the Dauntless leaders asked if I could find a strong, fearless Soldier from here to be a new leader. They said they wanted some one who didn't take any crap from anyone, and I told them I would send the best." I was both shocked and upset that Mr. DuBlack was actually going to send me away, but it was flattering, too.
I cleared my throat and asked, "But won't I be the only female leader?" Mr. Du Black nodded, and I felt my face go hot.
"Don't worry, Sierra. You'll fit in with them. You can make one of the initiates your friends, right?"
"I guess. But when do I leave?" I asked him with hesitation. I wasn't ready to leave all my closest friends, but if it was to help Dauntless, I would.
Mr. DuBlack looked almost sad, but it faded away quickly when he said, "Right away."
I stuffed all of the remaining cloths into the brown duffle bag, remembering to put the picture of my brother, Bram, into the side pocket. I looked around my minuscule room, closing my eyes and holding on to the memories that rested here. I remembered Que and I hiding away under my bed as kids, pretending that we were on secret missions. All of our secrets were told here, all of our hugs lingered here. Ever since my family died when I was little, Que had taught me everything about Dauntless. Yes, I was born into Dauntless, but Que was the one who had to lead me through the ways Dauntless followed. I felt the trickle of tears, but I forced them away. "Crying is weakness," I thought, turning away from my memories, my work position, and a lifetime of being by Que. But I could do this. I could be stronger than the rest of the leaders, and the initiates. I would be the most amazing, toughest, and most remembered leader. I would push the initiates to their breaking point, but I would also be caring. And maybe, just maybe, I would find a lifelong friend. As I strode out of the room that once belonged to me, I made a promise to myself that I would be the leader that everyone would want. I promised myself to be the most caring leader anyone could come to. I made a promise to be the best. And what could be a better promise?
