Authors Note:I'm gonna try a third person perspective this time and see how it goes. Let me know what you think!
Tokoyami hopped in the car. "I'm sorry mom. I was scared and upset and I didn't have any other option." He apologized as they left Tsu's driveway.
"You'd better be. You are in major trouble young man." His mother responded giving him a glare through the rear view mirror.
Tokoyami was confused. Wait what happened? She was so happy and kind just a minute ago! What got into my mom?
His stomach began to turn as he heard a voice in his head. That woman is not your mother. At least not fully.
Tokoyami was taken by surprise. He heard someone's voice but it wasn't his or his mothers. She doesn't have full control.
Tokoyami looked around to see if his mother heard the same thing but she was just focused on the road. She was deaf to the conversation in her sons head. Wh-what's happening? What do you mean? Tokoyami pleaded, scared and afraid. Her soul and body have been unlinked. She can't do anything. She is trapped. Aware of her surroundings, but unable to interact with this plane of existence. Almost like a dream.
What do you mean her soul is unlinked? Is she going to be okay? Tokoyami didn't understand. He wanted to know more so that he could help. Hmm. This analogy could help. Your mother, is normally driving a car, obeying the rules of the road. But if she is taken out of the car, different laws apply. Your mother's soul can't interact with this dimension, the same way you can't be arrested for speeding by running too fast. She was thrown out of her car and someone else started driving it away. Without a car, she can't obey the driving laws. The car in this analogy is her body. She is her soul. The road is your world.
Tokoyami was confused by this onslaught of new information. He tried to make sense of it. So without a car to drive she can't do anything?
Precisely. The voice said. Only when a soul and body are joined can they interact with the world around them.
Tokoyami, still upset and afraid, started to get a grasp on the basics of what he was just told. Will she be ok? Will she be able to get back in her car? He didn't want to lose his mother.
She should be able to eventually but it will take time. Depending on who is currently driving her car and their reason, there may not be enough though.
Tokoyami was scared. More scared than he had ever been in his life. He could lose his mother. He would be left alone. Nobody to help him. Nobody to comfort him.
Nobody to love him.
I-is there anything I can do? Anything at all? He was desperate. He would do anything necessary. Anything.
Unfortunately not. Unless someone unlinked your mind and body, you wouldn't be able to even talk with your mother.
There was nothing. No way to fix this. Nobody to help. He could only wait and hope. Suddenly a thought passed his mind. A glimmer of hope.
Wh-what about you? He asked. This voice had to belong to someone right? There had to be another soul. Unfortunately not. Despite me not having a body to drive, I am stuck here, unable to wander the spiritual plane. Your body is different it somehow possesses two souls. You and me. We drive the same vehicle like co-pilots on an airplane.
Tokoyami was still. He was numb. He was broken. He could do nothing. His mom was alone and helpless. I'm sorry. But he didn't respond. He didn't even hear it.
