Chapter One

Kate would have a hard time believing that some college idiots actually managed to burn down a building while cooking ramen, if she hadn't already seen the burnt remains of what used to be full of dorms. She feels bad for the kids that are now out of room, before school even officially begins.

So when she sees a sign-up sheet for anyone with extra space willing to help, she signs her name and adds the address of her apartment. Because, hey, she actually doesn't mind living with someone else. She doesn't think too much of it throughout the day, hoping only that her soon-to-be roommate knows the basic rules of hygiene. After all, you can't ask for too much.

Kate later returns home after a long day of clothes shopping because it is college, and her current wardrobe should be a bit more adult-like. At least that was what she thought before finding a store which sold t-shirts of some of her favorite bands. She is quite thankful now for a roommate because really, she needs a shopping buddy who can actually tell her what's too much.

Turning her kettle on, Kate then changes into some pajamas to settle down and watch her new favorite show, How to get away with murder. She gets about as far as to ship Laurel and Frank before her phone chimes with a new email. As she reads it, she learns that she was selected to share her apartment and that her new roomie will be around close to eleven the next day. Looking around her apartment, Kate decides it's still relatively clean and that she only needs to wash a few dishes.

After drying the last of the dishes, Kate heads to bed and climbs under her covers to fall asleep.

Soon, she can sense light peeking out from under her shade even though she swears her eyes had only just closed. When she does get up though, she looks at her clock to see that it's already ten o'clock.

Kate gets up, regretfully though, and gives her blankets a last wistful look before heading to the kitchen to grab some breakfast. Pouring out the cereal, she sits down and begins to eat.

She then wakes up to her face in her bowl of cereal and bits of cheerios stuck across her forehead. Kate is so not a morning person. As she checks the time on her phone, she realizes it is ten thirty and hurriedly runs to the bathroom for a shower.

When she emerges, she runs to her bedroom in search of some clothes to wear. She pulls out a pair of skinny jeans and a tank before quickly changing. She twists back a small section of her wavy brown hair and takes out a bobby pin, while simultaneously applying some lip gloss and a few layers of mascara. Just as she adds a bit of perfume, Kate hears a knock on her door.

Ready to greet her new roommate, Kate walks out and pulls open the door to see two boys outside of the door. One has styled blonde hair and is smiling widely while another with black hair and absolutely gorgeous eyes (Kate is a sucker for blue eyes) hangs behind shyly.

"Hi," she says, a bit unsurely. Kate was expecting to see a girl, but she's not exactly disappointed to see two attractive boys outside her door.

The blonde boy smiles even wider, if that's possible, and exclaims to his friend, "I told you that your roommate wouldn't suck!" It seems now that the shy one is going to be her roommate, and although Kate is a bit confused that it will not be a girl, she is slightly intrigued by the two boys. The boy with dark hair coughs slightly and that's when his friend turns back to face Kate and awkwardly scratches the back of his neck. "Well," he says. "I'm Carson."

Trying to diffuse the tension, she smiles. "I'm Kate. Harper." she says, inviting the boys inside of her apartment. They enter, and immediately begin staring in shock. Worriedly, Kate quickly asks, "Is everything alright?"
