Chapter Six

In exactly one hour, three sharp knocks sound against the front door of Kate and Finn’s apartment.

“I’ll get it,” Finn says, standing up from his spot on the couch and walking over to the door.

As Finn opens the door, his sister eagerly walks in and throws her arms around him. She looks strikingly like Finn, with her pin straight black hair and equally blue eyes. But whereas Finn has a bit more of a shy nature to him, Piper looks as fierce as a tiger. She seems like the kind of girl you’d dread to have as a rival. Kate’s wrong to think that the girl might dislike her, because Piper begins kindly speaking to her, even with her arms still wrapped around her brother, “I’m Piper,” she smiles. “Finn’s told me so much about you, I’m so glad that I finally get to meet you.”

Finn starts to whisper something in Piper’s ear but she ignores him and looks over at Kate, awaiting her response. “It’s good to meet you too,” she says, wondering just what exactly Finn has been saying about her.

“Well come on,” Piper begins, releasing Finn from her tight grip. “Let’s go shopping.”

Kate now knows why Finn relies so heavily on Piper for fashion choices. Piper is a shopping goddess. Along with Finn, Piper has been picking out clothes for Kate to wear and making her come out to model them. Her latest pick is simple purple dress, but Kate can’t believe how good it looks on her. It hugs her curves and makes her legs look absolutely stunning, although it is a bit pricey.

She walks out of the fitting room, and is greeted with a low whistle from Piper. “You are so buying that, Kate,” Piper gushes. “Shit! Sorry! You look amazing.” Piper turns her around to face Finn. “Look at her, little brother! Hold on, I’m getting another opinion,” she says, rushing off to the nearest shopper and leaving Kate and Finn alone.

“So,” Kate says shyly. “What do you think?” Looking up, Kate can’t help but notice Finn looking a little flustered, and blushing? Blushing? His cheeks have just a slight dusting of pink on them, just enough to be visible.

“Kate,” he begins, and clears his throat. “It looks really good on you. You should buy it.”

“You should!” Piper cries, coming back into the fitting area before stepping back and revealing a girl with red curls. “Okay,” she says, calming herself and turning to face the girl she brought in. Gesturing to Kate, Piper says, “My friend here just needs a bit of a review. What do you think of her dress?”

The girl steps forward, examining Kate before she reaches off to the side and pulls a pair of black pumps from a rack. “These,” she says, “are perfect for that dress.”

“It’s settled, Kate!” Piper says, before thanking the girl and pointing at Finn. “You. You need to go try on the rest of your clothes. You’re not getting out of this just because Kate tried on a pretty dress.”
