Chapter Eight
When Kate wakes up Saturday morning, she can’t decide whether to be happy or anxious. On the one hand, last night she just snuggled up to her adorable roommate. On the other, she has no idea how to act around him now. Where do they stand? Was it just friendly, or did it mean something to Finn? And if it even did, does it mean that they could be moving towards a relationship?
Does Finn even want to be in a relationship?
Groaning, Kate flops back against her pillow before finally getting out of bed. Boys are stupid.
“Stupidly attractive,” she mumbles, kicking at her carpet.
Fumbling around in her closet, she grabs a pair of jeans and a sweater before looking in the mirror and brushing her hair. Winter is rearing its ugly head and Kate hates that she has to put on a pair of fuzzy socks just to walk around in her apartment. But she does, and Kate uses those fuzzy feet to go and grab some breakfast from the kitchen.
When she walks in, she is greeted by the sight of a sleepy Finn. And it’s quite cute, the way his eyes are half-lidded and he’s nearly dozing off right there on the counter.
“Tired?” she asks, amused when he suddenly jerks upright and begins rapidly blinking.
“You could say that,” Finn grumbles, wiping at his eyes. “Do you mind if I borrow your car later? I was going to go grocery shopping today.”
Agreeing, Kate walks past him and takes the advantage to ruffle his dark hair. It’s really soft, and she enjoys it when Finn lets out an appreciative sigh. She helps herself to a bowl of cereal, and seats herself next to Finn. She eats her cereal quickly, but the boy to her left seems to be more focused on staying awake than eating. He really couldn’t have gotten very much sleep at all.
Suddenly, Kate’s phone begins ringing loudly, earning a big groan from Finn. The caller ID shows a goofy picture of Carson, and she wonders why he’s calling her instead of his best friend.
“Hello?” she answers.
“Kaaaaaaaate!” Carson says, and she can nearly picture him hopping around on his feet. “We’re getting coffee.”
“What? You mean like you and Finn?” she asks, a bit confused as to why he would be telling her.
“No! I mean like you and me,” he explains.
“Well,” she says. “Why are just you and I getting coffee?” She ignores the look she is getting from Finn. She actually kind of likes the way he perked up when he heard the ‘you and I.’
