CHAPTER 10 : JUST A CONTRACT 😏

     Pinkie came over with everything necessary to make a bride look pulchritudinous. She and Gloria dressed Lauren in her eye-catching bridal gown, she had to complain that everything was too much for a fake marriage.

Pinkie gave her an assuring look. "I don't want you to regret not having a befitting wedding someday. I am intuitive that your marriage would last till eternity."

Lauren couldn't help but feel warm in her heart. If only...

     By 7am, everything was set and Ashton's men came to pick them up. Ashton looked dashing but only Pinkie and Gloria acknowledged his beauty, Lauren acted as if he wasn't even there. This made Ashton feel bad inwardly, his gaze darkened.

      "Congratulations sister-in-law! I wish you a blissful married life", Pinkie hugged her as they came out of the Registry.

     Gloria hugged her amidst tears. "Congratulations bestie. I wish you an eternal marital bliss."

     Lauren only shook her head. "You girls should be actresses, I just got a fake wedding and you're happy for me to go. Apart from Pinkie, none of his family members were here. This isn't a wedding but a contract and I don't even love him, so there's no need to celebrate anything."

     Before they could reply back, they heard a voice. "It's not as if I also love you, this is a mere contract that can end at any moment, so don't even raise your hopes."

She snickered at him."Hehe! What's there to be hopeful about? To me, you're nothing but a business partner so don't think I'll fall for you."
Her two friends looked on excitedly as the couple shot daggers of looks and words at each other.

Pinkie decided to separate the fight. "Brother Ash, I'm very tired and hungry. Can you send us back please", she said as she looked at him with pleading eyes.

"Tony! Take them back", he said surly. He was pissed off because she treated him like a nonentity. He had always been the one to treat others this way but this...
The more she ignores him, the more intimidating he would be.

     "Pinkie, your brother is so annoying." Lauren said angrily as she alighted.

"Well, this is a matter between a husband and his wife. We can't interfere." Gloria responded.

"I won't bother myself with you two, I need to rest now.

     "Ashton! Leonard Johnson called angrily. Today is the deadline I gave you to introduce your woman. Since you won't do it, I'm giving you two options now. Step down from your position or I call the Marks to start preparations for the wedding."

     "I don't think that's necessary anymore. I will not step down because I've worked really hard to reach where I am now. As for marriage, here take a look. I got married yesterday", he said handing him the marriage certificate.

The old man was so baffled that he sat down immediately. "What are you saying."

"I just did what you've been asking me for years, so don't look at me that way. I can't accept any alliance because I'm not a child, so I married the woman I chose for myself."

"My grandson has really grown wings. You dare to get married without my consent."

"I know that you want me to marry a rich lady, but my wife is far from that. Whether you accept her or not is not my problem, I married her for myself and I need no one to lecture on the kind of woman I should marry."

Ashton! He shouted again, but the latter only stood up and left to meet his mother.

     "Ashton! News just reached me about your marriage, is it true?"

"Mother, if you heard it, then it means that it's really true." He replied calmly.

She looked at him worriedly. "You should have at least told me. You know that I love you very much and I'll never reject the one you love."

"Mother, I know you very well. You would have wanted to meet her and that would spoil my plans, because Grandpa would have traced you and ruin the wedding."

"It's okay son, but I'm eager to meet my new daughter-in-law", she said happily.

"Don't worry Mother! I'll bring her home next week. There are some arrangements I need to make in my house, she'll move in when I'm through."

She looked at him lovingly. "Son, I bless your marriage. I never thought that another woman could win your heart again. This woman, I want to meet her."

When he heard her words, his heart tightened and he frowned his face but he didn't allow her to notice it. Once, he was out of his room, he took his phone out and sent a text to Pinkie.

     Lauren was preparing lunch in the kitchen when she heard her phone ring.

"Pinkie!" she said as she picked the call.

Pinkie was in a mood to tease her. "Sister-in-law. Guess what?"

Lauren snorted. "Firstly, you know my name. Secondly, I'm not good at guessing, so just tell me."

"Well, you're my sister-in-law now so I'll call you that whenever I want to. Actually, Brother Ash said you should get ready to move in next week, the family wants to meet their new in-law."

"Move in? So I'll have to pretend to be an in-law when I'm there? I'm not going anywhere." she disconnected the call.

She dialled another number and it took a long time before the receiver picked up. She started ranting impatiently. "Ashton Johnson, you want me to move in and you never told me? This is just a contract, how do you expect me to move in?"

"What do you mean? Contract or no contract, a married woman will reside in her husband's house. Get ready, I'll personally come to pick you next Saturday. He said and disconnected the call.
She called three more times and he refused to pick the calls. On her fourth call, he switched off his phone.

At that moment, Lauren wished she could see him and rip him apart.
