------------

Hinata always knew he never was nor would ever be strong enough..

..that he'd never be like them.

But that didn't stop him from trying.

From pushing himself past- beyond his limits.
Over
and over
and over again.

He wasn't the tallest,
The strongest,
Not even the fastest-
But he tried.

When he made it onto the team he told himself that his efforts were worth it.

That all the times he'd been sick,
Forced himself to move even when every single sign was telling him not to,
When he almost tore his muscle from forcing himself to receive the killer spike..
almost, but not quite.

Hinata bruised easier than anyone else Ukai-San had ever seen,
than anyone on the team had ever seen,
But they believed Hinatas 'I just hair fair skin, it makes it delicate and easier to bruise' excuse and let it slide.

During diving drills,
practise matches,
block practise,
receive practise..
He'd always get bruises.

Even when they weren't even hit hard,
yet everyone just believed it and never questioned him.

----

In the early spring that year, his hair had started to change color and his 'muscles' were starting to go down.

It was so gradually that no one noticed,
well,
almost no one.

Lev noticed.
He was one of the only people who ever really noticed things like this.
As 'dumb' as he was,
he had an eye for the unusual and out of place.

He checked up on the fair skin thing,
it was a lie.

When he noticed Hinatas hair he wrote that down to look up later,
same with his muscles.

Lev hated the fact that he couldn't tell anyone what he knew,
he couldn't be the one to do that to Hinata.

But at the same time..
he didn't want to be the one to kill him.

He hated both options.

Tell someone and lose Hinatas trust,
forcing him to lose and never accomplish his dream to the incurable disease.

Or to be 'that guy'.
The person that knew and did nothing,
the person to watch from the sidelines even though he should be there,
by his side,
letting him know that he's not alone,
that he knows,
and that it will be some form of okay.

But even though he knew about Hinatas problem,
his condition,
he couldn't bring himself to tell anyone,
not even Hinata,
that he knew.

----

Hinata and Lev started dating a while back,
before any major signs of Hinatas condition showed.

He would always brush it aise or tell Lev to stop when he brung up his bruises,
telling him "I'm fine! I already said before, I just have fair skin!" or "Lev, it's normal. I'm fine. Stop."
Lev was never sure of which answer he'd get,
but he was always scared to find out..
Eventually he got too scared and just stopped.

But when they came to the training camp again,
when Lev was beyond happy to see his bundle of fluff again,
until he saw Hinatas hair and noticed the muscles.
That his skin was paler than before,
he almost looked like a twig.
