Saviours of the spirits

Chapter 6:

"You sure you are alright Oto?" Juniper said as soon as she saw him limping.
"For the bazillion time. Yes June, I'm alright, I just got a bit hurt." Mikoto said.

"You know she'll keep asking you all day right?" Marc said as he wrapped his arm around Juniper.
"I know, but my answer will stay the same every time" Mikoto said.

"Yes but Mikoto-" Nellie was cut off by her phone ringing in her pocket. She gave a short smile to the group before going off to answer it.

A few minutes later she came back with the phone clutched tightly in her hand and her face looking a bit dishevelled. Victor ran up to her and whispered something in her ear, it was too quiet for anyone else to hear but Nellie just nodded and took his hand .

" Um we're gonna leave early guys something came up sorry," was all Victor could say as Nellie turned her back on the group and walked away.

Kami knew the reason, it was the reason they came to the US in the first place but he couldn't share her secret and he never would, it wasn't his to share after all.

Juniper and Marc got up shortly after and said their goodbyes leaving just Mikoto and Kami. "Well what do you want to do? watch the sunset go down, share a fondue? Eat spaghetti lady and the tramp style," Mikoto said winking at an already blushing kami.

"Not a chance boy, we are going home and dressing your wound," Mikoto gave out a short groan before complying.

When they got home the house was desolate, Kami knew why. Nellie's mom had been diagnosed with a tumor on her brain two years ago and the doctors had told her that she didn't have to worry about it.

A year later and a half later, she fainted and had a bad seizure. She was taken to another hospital and it was there that the doctors discovered that she had a strange type of cancer and they had to remove it quickly before it caused more damage.

She was set to a surgery the month after that, the doctors had said that everything had turned out good, without complications. Yet, Nellie's mother hadn't woken up after three months. Not knowing if she was ever going to wake up, doctors called for Kami's parents and told them they had to come because Nellie was still underage.

The first few days since his arrival, Nellie would cry herself to sleep and if Kami's parents asked if she was alright, she would wave them off. Kami didn't want to bother her by asking so he kept quiet for a week. That was until he found her walking to the bathroom with a knife.He walked over to her side and hugged her as tight as he could.

She had buried her face in his chest, sobbing. Her mom had been one of the few people that had shown her how valuable she was, and he knew that the thought of loosing her was to much for Nellie. Kami had held her by the bathroom for five minutes before pulling her to his bedroom.

There he held her tightly while she ranted about her mom and how she couldn't lose her. Kami kept silent while she sobbed, not knowing what to say, and he knew he didn't need to. She just needed to know she had someone there for her, and he wanted to be that someone.

An hour later, he felt her breathing evening out, letting him know that she had fallen asleep. Carefully, he took the knife out of her hand and laid her in his bed. They never talked about that moment, but they both knew that if the other one needed support, they had each other, no matter what.

"Kami!" Mikoto screamed, finally taking Kami out of his train of thought.
"What?" Kami asked.
"Gosh, when you are lost in thought it seems like you go to another planet dude," Mikoto laughed Kami faked a laugh

"Yeah I'm just in the clouds today it seems," he stays there for a bit before quickly jumping up from the bench.
"What?" Mikoto asks worried.
"Bandages!" Kami said before packing up the picnic rug and grabbing Mikotos hand to leave.

"Oh come on Kam we're not in a hurry," Mikoto groaned.
"Yes we are, I can see how much that keg is killing you so let's back," he yelled.

Once they got home Kami made Mikoto sit on the couch before grabbing a first aid kit and sitting down infront of Mikoto.

" Ok so I don't know much about this but considering this was made by some unholy creature I doubt the doctors could help anymore then I can," kami said changing his tune.
"I knew I shouldn't have trusted you when you said 'a thing or two' you meant you knew how to but on a plaster didn't you?" Mikoto grimed.

Kami ignored this and started cleaning the wounds with a disinfectant wipe earning him a groan from Mikoto.
"Sorry," kami said being as gentle as possible.

He then started checking out the wound itself to see what it was. It looked like a laceration but his skin looked scarred and incredible red .

As kami touched the skin around it Mikoto let out another groan "Oh god whatever your doing is making me feel like I'm being electrocuted," Mikoto said while kami just gave him an apologetic smile.

Mikoto rested his head on his hand while leaning into the side of the couch as Kami finished up with the bandages. He found it weird how Mikoto hadn't said anything for the past 20 minutes but he was so concentrated on his bandaging work that he didn't notice all too much.

When he looked up at Mikoto he saw the boy had fallen asleep on the side of the couchs arm. He smiled at the sight and got a blanket from the guest bedroom to put over Mikoto.

He kept thinking about what happened today; about Mikoto nearly drowning, that smoke and Nellie. It was all too much for him Kami sat on the other end of the couch and took his phone out.

He checked his messages, there was a new one from his mother telling him that her and his dad were going to be out the whole afternoon so that he and Nellie could order pizza if they wanted.

He also had the ten messages from Kai that he hadn't opened in a month. They had been close once, but after what Kai did, he didn't know what to think about it, and after the amount of things that has happened that day, he refused to think about Kai.

Kami finally found Nellie's number and he texted her asking if she was alright. After five minutes without response, he was feeling a little drowsy so he rested his head on his arm and closed his eyes.

Ok so a few things again haha firstly thanks for reading, here's a spoiler : it doesn't get much better in the next chapter for Mikoto or Nellie or really Kami for that matter. Maybe we're evil who knows.

Also the original idea for this was to be centred around the planets. Mikoto is the moon god in Shinto and Kami comes from the name of the deity's in Shinto to.
As you can tell I am very interested in Shinto mythology, I don't know why it's just interesting haha and Mariana just went with it, thanks girl :)
She came up with juniper for Jupiter and Victor for Venus and Marc for Mars and Nellie was going to be Neptune but all of that changed soon enough haha.
