Dreaming was a refuge and a prison. Some friendly and warm, wishing you never woke up, and others haunting you for years to come.
Waking on this day was difficult, mind racing keeping you up for far too long and being alerted by data pad that you were required in one hour for a family "meeting", essentially a strained breakfast with some stern conversation of a kind. You hadn't stirred the pot in a while you had thought, what could this possibly be called for.
Your mother and father were both senators of significance on your home planet, you were the oldest daughter second to your older brother, with two much younger siblings trailing after the two of you. You and your brother were not very close, he was stern with you as your parents were and always seemed to remain aloof and detached. He was everything they dreamed, handsome, intelligent, and most importantly, compliant. It wasn't as if you were lacking intelligence, you graduated schooling at the top of your classes with ease. You had an attitude and immovable stubbornness, as well as an interest for thrill. You tested your parents patience often, acting un-ladylike, experimenting with alcohol, sneaking out to meet your friends. You weren't a child, after all, your early twenties seemed to be flying by.
God you hoped this would go quick and easy. You roused yourself from bed rubbing your eyes, feeling like you weighed a million pounds.
Practically throwing yourself in a cold shower you shook yourself awake and proceeded to get ready. Small bit of concealer for dark circles, and some tinted chapstick so you didn't look as dead as you felt. You threw on a simple outfit, a black jumpsuit with long sleeves and a slight flare pant, comfortable but presentable enough for your parents.
You walked into the dining area, your family droid escorting you to your place among your parents and older brother, apparently the younger siblings were not needed at this particular meeting. Typical.
You looked up at your parents, awaiting whatever reprimand they had ready for you.
"Our dearest Y/N, we have the most wonderful news of a fantastic opportunity for our family." Your father stated in the most business like manner possible, also incredibly typical. Your mother had a ridiculous smile plastered on her face, it was making you uneasy.
What the hell is this? "Oh? And what may this be?" You asked, eyebrows raised in genuine curiosity.
"The supreme leader has decided that it is time for him to accept an empress to unite the galaxy and provide heirs for the reign of the first order. We have offered you as an option for this position and general Hux has just informed us you have been accepted as a candidate!"
What.
"The supreme leader required to be able to choose his wife out of a few candidates to ensure a viable union, so you will be leaving tomorrrow to star killer base for a weeks time to secure your place as empress. You will do what is needed to make sure that happens, this would be exceptional for our family rank as well as our planets relationship with The Order"
Fuck.
