Erik's POV:
Not being able to take the broken sound of her voice I walk up behind her, spinning her around to face me before I gently caress her face. She leans into my touch, before leaning away for a moment to take off the gloves that I wear. Instantly, I'm warmed by the touch of her cheek on my skeleton hand. I lean in closer to her face and meet her eyes with my own, for once showing me exactly what she's feeling. Heartbreak and regret.
"Rosella, forgive me. There is nothing to forgive you for, but everything to forgive me for. I was caught up in my own memories this afternoon. I didn't see you, beautiful you, standing before me when my mask was removed. I saw only the vixen that removed my mask and broke my heart once before. Not only did you have to see the atrocity of my face, the insanity of my rage, but you had to deal with my lingering anger towards her."
"You have seen my insanity, multiple times, it is only right that now I have seen yours as well. Erik you need not ask me for forgiveness the fault was entirely my own."
"No, my unwillingness to take off my mask even after you had taken yours off begs forgiveness as well as everything that followed. Forgive me my love, mon ange. I love you."
I see her eyes fill with unshed tears as she looks at me, before she catches me off guard and kisses me. My eyes were filled with shock for only a moment before I responded to her in the kiss, pulling her closer to my body as she wrapped her arms around me. After a moment, I reach up and take the mask off, while she has her eyes closed in our kiss. I slowly break the kiss and pull her into my chest for one last embrace before kissing her on the forehead and slowly pushing her away from me.
Rosella's POV:
I feel my heart rise in hope and love as he begins to return the kiss, and my soul enters a feeling of bliss that I never expected to experience. Then I'm being pushed away from him just as suddenly. I open my eyes in fear of rejection and questioning as to why he's pushing me away. I look up at him to ask why he pushed me away but I'm stopped by what I see as I make eye contact with Erik. I find myself frozen as I realize that he took off his mask for me. I see the fear of rejection in his eyes match my own as I stare at the right side of his face without the mask.
Erik's POV:
I watch as she opens her eyes and looks up at me, confusion and fear in her eyes, until she freezes as she sees me without my mask. My face is hideous I know. The skin on the right side of my face is a sickly yellow color. My right cheek looks as if it was cut away and never properly healed. My ear and nose look similar, with the bridge of my nose never forming leaving what is present of my nose looking sunken in, and half my ear being deformed and melted looking. My skull is visible through a thin layer of skin where my hair never grows on my right temple.
The sight of my face has caused people to faint with just one look, but Rose doesn't react that way. She moves closer to me just as she did in our embrace and not farther away, as she looks up at me. I notice that not once has she blanked her face and every emotion she has had has come through clearly. I watch as she slowly raises her hand and looks at me, as if asking permission, while I simply nod once. She places her hand gently on my deformed face and traces all the monstrosity of my face.
She brings her hand back down on my neck before leaning towards me andkissing me gently on my deformed cheek, then my nose, then my temple, andfinally my lips. I find myself frozen as she kisses me and I feel her break thekiss after a few seconds. I can't help but smile at her as the tears in my eyesstart to escape. She looks at me again with those beautiful eyes of hers andcaresses my marred and hideous face. Then she smiles at me.
"Erik, promise me you won't wear the mask when it's just us. You're handsomeand I want to see all of your face when we're together."
"Y-you want to see this atrocity?"
"No, I want to see the beauty of your face. It's not atrocious, I think it'sbeautiful. So strange yet beautiful."
