C H A P T E R 7
— D-Ranked Missions a.k.a. Chore Missions"Team 1?" Sandaime called out, beginning the briefing. As always, the fail rate should be high. The first man stepped forward, tall with rusty brown hair. He had a scar over his forehead and one from his lower lip to his chin.
Smiling, he saluted and said, "Yousei Kinrara. Fail."
As expected. Sandaime nodded before continuing with "Team 3?". Team 2 was still in function, Kitsumori was doing a good job with developing another intel group. Team 3's Jounin instructor stepped forward, a brunette with blue eyes.
"Kisa Nara. Fail," she said. My, she looked almost disappointed.
Sandaime nodded and continued, "Team 5?"
This one has two civilian-borns with very high marks and a Yamanaka. The instructor is an Aburame, who recently graduated much like another Jounin he knew. "Ren Aburame. Pass."
Well, that's a surprise. Sandaime nodded, "Team 6?"
"Jin Shinkai. Fail." It was practically spat out, must have been a horrible team. Team 6 consisted of an entire Kunoichi team. Seems like it truly won't work to have that from scratch if the look on Jin's face was any indication.
Sandaime nodded anyway then he looked almost annoyed at the next team. "Team 7?"
Someone snorted.
"Kakashi Hatake," he started, smiling. "Pass."
Someone choked, probably the same person as before.
Sandaime was surprised, then again, this was another team he had tried something new with. Normally, they do place Top Kunoichi with Top Shinobi and paired with Dead Last. But with the Ino-Shika-Cho formation, there were talks about having more coordination teams. Well, there was Shirayuki Nara who chose a different way of challenging herself, like the rest of her clan.
The Nara had a quirk of finding methods to challenge themselves in school, Shikaku had chosen to score enough to get fifth in class every time. Miketsuni just got flying colours and won Shinobi of the Year. Shikamaru decided to go for the minimum passing grade needed. And finally, Shirayuki went for the method of scoring exactly the most average score in the class.
With these kinds of marks, he could use the excuse to balance out the team. Have the elite, the normal, and the dead last in the same team. Of course, he had dumped it to Kakashi to see whether they can even work and what do you know, it did. And now Kakashi passed his first team and Sandaime got a potential future three-man squad that may be as good as his own students. Maybe, likely not, but there was a chance.
But they passed so Sandaime got a strategic genius, a Ninjutsu powerhouse, and a potential Genjutsu monster all in one team. Good enough for him, it was up to Kakashi and see how he could develop their potential.
"Team 8?" Sandaime continued, very satisfied.
Team 8 should be their new tracker team, this would be the second time they paired an Aburame, an Inuzuka, and a Hyuuga on the same team. The first time it happened, it took a miracle and a half to work, and it was a complete Shinobi-only squad. Their teacher came in with her black hair and red eyes. Similar features to an Uchiha yet ultimately still different.
"Kurenai Yuhi, pass."
Good. There's potential here as well. They needed more trackers and could double as an infiltration squad as well. Maybe make them an intel group, work together with Team 5 perhaps. Sandaime blew his pipe and continued, feeling old when he saw the next team. "Team 10?"
