"Peggy! It's not what it looks like!" Dottie pleaded.
"And what, pray tell, does it look like?"
"Relax, English. We were just trying to clean a stain. Dottie spilled on herself, see?" Angie pointed to Dottie's soiled shirt, which she wasn't sure was helping.
She slipped her shirt back over her shoulders, trying hard not to blush too noticeably.
A strange hardness gleamed in Peggy's eyes as she looks at her sister.... but finally, she cleared her throat and turned her attention to Dottie. "So.... how's party planning been going?"
"We're actually all done. It wasn't easy. Whitney had some very.... specific instructions."
"Ah, yes. I'm familiar with Whitney's lists. She's...."
"Obnoxiously high maintenance?"
"As her betrothed, I think I'd better plead the Fifth."
"How diplomatic of you. If Dad does end up disowning you, you've always got a future in politics."
"And now I'm certain I've left you alone with Angie enough for one day. I hope she hasn't spilled all our family secrets already."
Dottie thought back on all those personal questions she asked Angie and felt a pang of guilt.
"Don't worry, Dottie still doesn't know about the band we were in-"
"Oh wow, would you look at the time? I actually came by to offer Dottie a ride home. Unless...." Peggy's eyes darted over to Angie, and Dottie saw a flash of something she couldn't quite put her finger on. "....you still have some unfinished business here?"
'Is Peggy.... jealous? Well, there's only one way to find out.'
"We're done here. I'd love a ride home." Dottie put her drink back on the tray and gathered her things to go. Although, she could've sworn she caught a weird look between Peggy and Angie while she was getting ready.
"We'll see you later, Ange. Try not to work too hard."
"Yeah, catch you later, cutie." Dottie said to Angie with a playful smile and wink.
Catching her drift, Angie played along. "How's the old adage go? I hate to see you go.... but I love to watch you leave."
"Aren't you supposed to be on the clock right now?" Peggy snapped at her sister.
"You know I'm salaried." Angie smiled and Peggy glared at her before heading to the hallway. Angie reached out and took Dottie's arm, drawing her back.
"What're you doing?" Dottie whispered.
"What am I doing? What are you doing? I've never seen her so wound up by my flirting before. It's my new favourite thing."
"Dottie?" Sam called from the hallway.
"Coming!" Dottie called back. Angie's words still echoed in her mind as she followed Peggy outside to meet Edwin. She slid into the backseat of the town car with Peggy close behind.
"Hello there, Miss Underwood. I trust your engagement party brainstorming was productive?"
"Surprisingly yes, despite working with Angie."
"I do see the conundrum there. Would you like some music, Ms. Carter?"
"Yes, something soft, please."
Ambient music quietly filled the car as Edwin rolled up the tinted partition to give them some privacy. Peggy turned to her, her gaze darkened.
"Now that we're alone, you can tell me how your day with Angie really went. I hope she didn't bother you too much. Was she that flirty with you all day?" Peggy asked, her jealousy blatantly obvious.
