A week after the engagement party, Dottie shuffled into the kitchen, bleary-eyed as she started cooking breakfast.
"I need some coffee, stat." She said, letting out a big yawn after. "Then I'll make a tower of waffles, Eddie and Mikey's favourite."
Dottie looked over to see Peggy meander in behind her. Peggy gave her a crooked smile and reached for the coffee pot. "Morning, Dottie. Something steamy to start your day?"
"You read my mind."
Peggy filled the cup for her, making it exactly the way she liked it before passing it into her hands. "So, you and the boys are going to Coney Island this afternoon?"
"All the rides and games we can handle. Sure you can't come?"
"Tempting, but-" Peggy cut off as the elevator dinged. A moment later, Whiney entered the kitchen, hoisting a paper bag and looking suspiciously bright-eyed for that early in the morning.
"Darling!" Whitney threw her arms around Peggy, who barely managed to catch her.
"Oh! Whitney, what are you-"
"Saying good morning to my boo-bear, duh!" Whitney tried to pull her in close, but Peggy stepped back.
"We have company."
"It's just the nanny." Whitney patronized.
"Yeah, I've lost my appetite anyway." Dottie put the mug down and started to turn away.
"Dottie, you don't have to leave. This is your home too, and Whitney needs to remember that." Peggy said and gave Whitney a look, who only rolled her eyes.
"Whatever. I'm here to see Daisy anyway." Whitney tossed her hair over her shoulder and turned her back on Peggy to focus on Dottie. "Grab me a cup of coffee and let's chat."
"Whitney, we talked about this. It's not appropriate for you to ask Dottie to fetch things for you."
Whitney rolled her eyes again, but moved to get her own cup of coffee. Dottie tried to catch Peggy's gaze just as the twins came barreling into the room with mussed hair.
"Morning. What's for breakfast?" Eddie asked, rubbing his eyes.
"Oooooo, waffles! Score!" Mikey shouted, sitting in his chair quickly.
"I thought you boys could use a little treat for breakfast." Dottie said and started to set a plate of waffles in front of Mikey, but Whitney snatched it right out of her hand. "Hey!"
"Whitney, surely that's not necessary-"
"This kind of unhealthy eating is exactly what I wanted to talk to you about, Deirdre."
"But waffles...." Eddie frowned.
"Don't worry, Mikey. I grabbed some fresh spinach and mushrooms to put in an egg white omelette for you and your brother."
"I'm Eddie."
"That's what I said." Whitney took two steps and dumped the plate over the trash can.
"Whitney!" Peggy scolded.
"Noooooo!" Mikey shouted.
"Whitney! Stay in your lane." Dottie snapped. "If you want to take over my nanny duties, then go ahead. But until then, back off."
"Rude." Whitney said, looking her up and down then glancing at Peggy. "Peggy, back me up here."
"While I don't agree with her methods.... maybe Whitney has a point?"
