Zuko liked boys not girls, this was something that he had been sure of since the 5th grade, and this fact carried on to his current age of 19. His father, the powerful business owner of Ozai Tech was not okay with this in the slightest. This is why Zuko worriedly paced his big room as he thought about how he was going to tell his father about this.
What if I just show up with a boyfriend? No I'm single and I wouldn't want to put the wrath of my father on anybody else. Okay what if I just sit him down and talk about it? No then there would be no witnesses to him killing me. Okay I'll just say it during dinner! Okay? Okay!I got this. All these thoughts were interrupted by a loud knocking on his bedroom door. Zuko jumped at the reminder of his surroundings and looked towards the door.
"Zuko! Dinner's just about done! Don't be late or father will kill you~," she said in a sing-song voice, "of course that wouldn't be too bad would it! Anyway, come out of your cave and eat!" Azula yelled through the door. She knew well that one of the maids or butlers could have called him out to dinner but she loved the feeling of tormenting him.
Zuko sighed, Azula had always been better than him. She had always been the favorite and it would probably stay that way. She was a much better business person, and was much more fit to inherit the company. Zuko knew this, especially since his father drilled it into his head that "Azula is better and always will be". He opened the door to his room and walked through the large house to the dining room. As he walked past a large photo of the family on the wall his face saddened, his mother's kind eyes looked down at him in the photo. He shook thoughts of her out of his head and continued to the dining room.
Azula and his father were already seated at the table as maids and butlers brought out food. He always felt bad seeing people catering to their every whim, but they were paid generously so he never thought too hard about it. He sat down at the large table across from his sister. His mind was racing, he was going to tell his father he liked boys.
He looked down at his empty silver plate and saw the large scar on his left eye. He had always been insecure about it and receiving it cost him a lot of pain. He looked up the maid serving him his food and thanked her to which she only smiled back. Azula started speaking about their current business strategies with Ozai and zuko zoned out of the conversation. He wasn't worried about the business, he'd much rather worry about making up a speech. He exhaled deeply and looked up at his dad.
"Father." Zuko said, interrupting the pair talking.
"What have you interrupted me for now?" He spoke semi-yelling
"I need to tell you something very important."
"Continue on then"
"I.....," he paused thinking about what his father would say, "I don't...like girls." He finished sheepishly.
"Speak up, first you interrupt me and your superior sister and now you can barely speak!"
In a fit of blind rage he screamed at his father, "I. LIKE. BOYS!"
The table fell silent, his father's face twisted with rage and disgust. Azula looked at him with a dark smirk knowing how their father would react. Zuko immediately lost all his confidence and shrunk back down into his chair.
⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️TRIGGER WARNING! TRIGGER WARNING! BE CAUTIOUS, HOMOPHOBIA AHEAD! TRIGGER WARNING!⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️
⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️
"YOU WHAT?!?!? DO YOU KNOW WHAT THAT DOES TO OUR FAMILY NAME!?! THAT IS DISGUSTING! THE AUDACITY YOU HAVE TO DISGRACE US IN SUCH A HORRIBLE AWAY. A FAGGOT LIKE YOURSELF DESERVES NOTHING! YOU ARE NOTHING! THIS IS WHY AZULA IS BETTER THAN YOU! AZULA IS SMART AND NOT SOME DISGRACEFUL BITCHY LITTLE FAG! GET YOUR DISGUSTING FAGGOT SELF OUT OF THE FUCKING FAMILY AND OUT OF THIS FUCKING HOUSE!!"
All Zuko could do was be silent. He felt tears dare to come out as his eyes glossed over. What was I thinking? I am disgusting, why did I even try? He thought, as he pushed himself away from the table and saw Azula's horrid smile as she watched the whole scene. He stood up and walked away from the table looking straight at the floor, avoiding eye contact with any of the workers. As he neared his room he let himself cry. All of the bottled up emotions he had he cried out. He opened his door and slammed it loud behind him. As soon as the door closed he called his uncle, the only person in the world who understood him. His phone rang once, then again, then uncle Iroh picked up his old outdated phone. Zuko sniffed and wiped his tears.
"Uncle? Can you come pick me up? Father and I just got into a big fight."
"Zuko? Of course!" Iroh could tell that he had been crying and that this was more than just one of their usual fights "Oh your father always stirring up problems. When we get back I can make you some tea and cake, how does that sound?"
Zuko sniffled again "that sounds great, thank you so much you don't know how much this means to me. I'll see you soon, bye"
"Well great! see you soon, goodbye."
The younger boy hung up the phone and sighed, his eyes were still red, and his nose still stuffy but he went over to his closet to grab some suitcases and started packing. He packed up his clothes first, which wasn't too much of a challenge despite his being rich. He then packed up all his belongings, his books, his technology, and his photos. While packing them he stopped looking at his picture of his mother and him. Mom would have accepted me, mom would have let me stay. He thought, putting the picture away. Just as he finished packing he heard uncle Iroh do his signature honk outside. He took his first two suitcases out, and his uncle took his 3 backpacks to the old car. Zuko went and sat in the front seat, he was leaving and he wasn't going back.
