Embers POV

I had locked him in..
Why? I knew I couldn't let him leave in the middle of the night, and definitely not after what I saw. The nightmare he had was surely terrifying because the way his body shook and he screamed for them to stop, I couldn't help but wake him. He had a death grip on my hand but I was not bothered by it, not when he was sitting there with those horrendous dreams troubling him. He looked so vulnerable that I couldn't hold his gaze for more than seconds. It made my eyes water to see my mate in such pain and it broke my heart that he wanted to go back in the middle of the night just because my pack members would be bothered that my mate is a rogue.
I don't think the fact that he is a rogue matters to me as much as it did earlier. He surely is making a steady but slow way into my heart and I can tell even now that it's just a matter of time until we are together.

I stood outside his room without making a sound to make sure that he slept and did not try breaking that door down.
The next morning I woke up early and decided to make some breakfast. I went to give him his plate as I sneaked in only to find him sleeping peacefully, without a worry. The crease lines on his forehead had disappeared and the fright he had was now definitely not there. He didn't look purely angelic in his sleep as we expect but there was a different light to his face which pulled me into a trance which had me staring at his face. I was lost, not in thoughts but his face, his features, they were sharp yet not very sharp , his jawline was defined and his face showed it all. All the pain, struggle he had been through.
I just wanted to mark him and announce to the whole world that this rogue was my mate and he didn't deserve what he got or what he's getting. He deserves much better.
I didn't deserve him, not after the many times I killed rogues because they entered my territory. I always gave them a chance to speak for themselves but most of the times they didn't speak something very convincing, which led them 6 feet under the ground. I had never felt guilty about it until this Ray, this Ray of light came into my life.
I knew all these thoughts of mine since we met in this office but I wasn't ready to accept them myself. I wasn't ready to accept that I was rethinking my decisions because of a person who I hadn't even known since a long time.
I knew that he had already impacted many many things in my life. I know for a fact that after this I wouldn't kill a rogue, I would definitely put them in the cells till they gain my trust but no I wouldn't kill them.
I have been in the dark for way too long. For as long that I started to believe that light does not exist. But this man, my mate showed me that light does exist. I wouldn't say I had come into light all the way but I could definitely see it at the end of the tunnel.
He stirred awake and that pulled me out of my thoughts. I placed the plate on his lap.
"Freshen up and eat. I wanna take you somewhere."
He just looked up at me, his eyes still dazed and nodded. He looked so cute, childlike as he rubbed his eyes to get rid of the sleep and clumsily walked towards the bathroom.
He came out and I left the room to get ready and he too soon came out and took a glance at me.
I blushed.... How the hell did that happen I don't know. He just smiled a soft smile and walked towards the door as I followed him.
Something had definitely changed between us since yesterday. What had changed, how had the change taken place I didn't know. But I knew for a fact that I was ready to accept this person as my mate and spend my life with him, but only after letting out all our secrets, past etc. Only after that could we leave it all behind us.
He took a seat in the passenger seat and I started driving. I was told many times that I drive like a madman but I didn't quite care until today. Today I was certainly driving slowly, what compelled me to do so?
I had no freaking idea !!
"Seatbelt"
That one word snapped me out of my thoughts.
"Huh? Uh yeah "
I hurriedly put on my seatbelt even though we were pretty close to our destination. We reached the start of the woods and I got out of the car as he followed me. His gaze held so many questions but not a single time did he open his mouth to ask them. I don't know what made me think that he trusted me, maybe that he didn't ask questions or followed me without question and trusted me enough to do so, but that thought warmed my heart. We started dodging our way through the woods and stones and he stumbled besides me, as a reflex I caught his hand but he was definitely heavier than I had expected. And guess what, I went down with him just as he landed on the hard ground with a thud, the next thud was heard instantaneously which was because of my fall.
My whole body ached but I got up ignoring it and he followed.
I cracked up and I didnt know why was I laughing, I think he would've thought that I am probably a bit crazy, which I am but not the crazy which laughs without any reason.
When I looked at him he was gazing at me with an unreadable expression which made my face heat up. I took a hold of his hand and tugged it to start walking again. He was looking at our intertwined hands and smiled. Unknowingly a smile spread on my face as well.
We soon reached the place I wanted to take him to.
It was an empty ground with lots of grass and the sun's warm rays were soothing to the skin. I had planted a patch full of mixed roses which seemingly danced in the light breeze and sunlight. I went and layed down under a tree, looking up at the sky, humming "You known my Name" under my breath.
He laid down beside me and I laid my head over his chest. He was surprised and his breathing got laboured and his heartbeat was high, very high. I looked up at him and kissed him on his cheek. A blush covered his cheeks and he kissed my forehead.
"Why did you lock me in?"
I got startled because I wasn't expecting him to ask me about it.
"I - Uh I didn't want you to leave. You mean something to me even if I didn't say this before. I know I messed up in the office but I wasn't expecting all that and it was my only escape to put on the professional facade and get away as soon as possible, but on the inside I was freaking out, I was happy a different happy."

"Didn't seem like it."
" I know and I feel shitty for doing that but I need to remind you, if you get the job, we are going to be strictly professional in the office."
"Sure Ma'am !" He replied with a small smile on his face.
" I come here when I want to shift, the city does not have many places where we can shift but this one's definitely safe and also the best."
" I see that, I too would have loved to come here everyday. "
"Hmm"

We lay there in comfortable silence until the afternoon when the sun started blaring. We dusted off our clothes and I started walking. I was suddenly yanked by my arm and crashed into Ray's chest but i didn't look up. He just hugged me for what seemed like hours but we're only minutes and let go of me, a sudden coldness rushing to my skin. I instantly got goosebumps because of the halfsleeved shirt I was wearing. A jacket was put on my shoulders and I snuggled without even realising. It smelled of his cologne and I took a deep breath. He put an arm around my shoulder as we walked and I felt so drowsy that I couldn't even walk straight.
He silently took the keys and put me into the passenger side and started driving, but I was already dozing off. I could see the electrifying eyes staring at me even when my eyes were closed and I knew he was influencing me more then we both realised.
I felt his lips touch my forehead in a light kiss and I felt him picking me up and carrying me. I put my arms around his neck and snuggled up to him and I felt his chest vibrate before I heard the faintest of his chuckle, and then I was out cold.
