Ray's POV

I slept soundly..
The talk with Jane definitely helped me to get rid of the burden weighing me down all these years..
All these years, when I had noone to talk to, to trust, to believe and to understand me.

The next day came fast, too fast for my liking. I wasn't ready to meet her and talk to her, not after how the confrontation went yesterday. I was never find of confrontations ever, but yesterday's conversation had told me all I needed to know.
I just had to keep my distance.
Easy..
Easy peasy ..
Only if it was. If we cannot forget our simple crushes in a matter of time, how can I forget my mate, no wait, not forget, how can I be with her, see her and be in her presence all the time, but cannot have her as mine..
Mine to trust, to love, to cherish and respect.

I quickly jumped out of bed, not wanting to be late and piss her off even more than she is pissed right now..
I got ready as soon as I could and hailed a cab and the huge building with the black letters "Cole's Companies" came into view.
My heart started thudding in my chest.
Why?
I had no idea..
Maybe anticipation of how she would react or maybe the still tiny hope which I didn't wish to have but still had..
The wish that she would accept me.

Not looking where I was going I bumped into someone and realised I had already reached the elevator.
I had bumped into nobody else but Ember herself. My fate just loved me, didn't it.

We both didn't say anything, me because I was still dazed and she because she walked away into the elevator.
I thought she would leave me behind, opting to close the doors with the button , but to my surprise she stuck her foot in between the door when it started closing.
She raised her eyebrows looking at m with an 'are you serious' expression. I hurriedly entered the elevator and the whole ride was awkward.
Awkward was an understatement.
We both entered the office and I waited for her to instruct me for the day, as I slid the file towards her regarding all the meetings today.
She sat in her seat across the desk as she stared at me for a good two minutes before I cleared my throat with a light blush on my cheeks. She snapped out of it and took the file as she scanned it with scrutinizing eyes.
"Take the file about the new products tender with you, when we go to the Blackwell Company.
Also I want you to email me all the presentations which were made for the same."
I quickly nodded my head and went straight to my office and emailed them to her within a few minutes.
A smile graced her lips as her notification sound dinged in the office. I would've missed the smile if I wasn't looking at her as closely as I was, yes it was that small.

My office phone dinged and Ember called me in her office and kept the phone down. I went in and waited patiently as she was still typing something furiously on her laptop.
"Please bring me my regular black coffee from the cantine and we would be leaving in an hour for the meeting with the Blackwell Companies."
I wordlessly nodded and scurried off, not wanting to be in her presence any longer. Not that I didn't want to be, it was more like I couldn't be, not with the nagging voice in my brain reminding me that she wasn't mine.
I collected the coffee and took one for myself. I had slept soundly but all the stress was taking a toll on me and I felt tired out since the morning.
A strong cup of coffee was definitely what I needed right now.
I was pacing to reach her office and I accidently bumped into a lady, she instantly yelled out as her purse was now redecorated with black coffee and cream streaming down it. She looked at me with her eyes ablaze and I kept on apologizing profusely, not wanting to give Ember her coffee late.
"How do you people even walk without watching? Huh ?"
She practically was screaming in my ears and her nasally voice was definitely not music to my ears. I had to get out of here. Not for Embers coffee, but for my hearing ability, I didn't want to be stuck with a hearing aid for the rest of my life.
Till then a voice boomed in the corridor literally saving me.
"I think that's enough Ms. Kimberly. You can wipe the purse with a tissue and it would be cleaned. As for Mr. Ray, I want you in my office in a few."
