“Michael, hand me my board wax. It’s under my towel.”
“Cameron do you have to go surfing EVERY time we go to the beach?” Zach says while plopping himself in the sand.
“Dude, Do you see these waves!? You cannot pass up these days.”
They never get it when I’m surfing, it’s like a whole other world. It’s a place we’re I can escape everything and just focus on the water.
“Um Cameron, We have a problem.” Mikey yells.
I start to walk over “Mikey! It’s under the towel You know that soap like object.”
“Oh man really? I thought it was a rice crispy treat.” Placing one hand on his hip and the other over his mouth.
I start laughing, Michael is always the jokester. You never see him mad or serious for that matter.
“What’s the problem then?” Seconds after I see the bar of wax heralding towards me.
Thunk! Right in the shoulder.
Oh it’s so on!
I grab a hand full of sand packed with crushed shells and hurdle it towards my dear friend. It’s a full blown war now. Michael and I are running around the beach like we’re five years old again throwing sand left and right, yelling the most random phrases ever.
“Michael Martinez is hawt!!” Mikey screeches after momentarily blinding me with a face full of ocean water.
“Zach! Grab some sand and help me out man! I’m dying over here!” I look over at Zach who has his iPod in and is full out dancing, shaking his butt, even pulling out the ol’ jazz hands. I just shake my head.
What are you gonna do? He’s my best friend.
“White flag! White flag!” I yell out, sprawling myself on the ground with my hands up.
“Ohhhh!! Michael Martinez is the winner!! He is VICTORIOUS!” He shouts proudly while breaking out into a dance party for one.
Normally I would have never given up, but the waves were to good to waste anymore time. I walk over to the main beach, so I was not to ambushed by another fight. We usually never go to the main part because we always get stopped by fans. Which don’t get me wrong, we love that, but sometimes we just like to hang by ourselves. Plus no one will be able to recognize me once I’m in the water.
I catch a couple of solid waves before deciding it was time to head back in. As I paddle towards the shore, I see a little boy sprinting across the sand. I reach the edge of the water, when I see who he is running from. A girl? She looks about 19. Medium length, wavy dark brown hair and pale skin. She is screaming at the kid to give her something back. I look back over to the boy and notice he has a notebook in his hand.
Now Cameron, should you play hero here and risk being noticed or should you just keep on walking because it is really none of your business.
The boy starts to sprint in my direction. I look back at the poor girl running out of breath, still chasing him at full speed. I just stare at her. I don’t know why, but there is something about her that makes me want to get to know her.
Always the nice guy Cameron.
I run my hand through my thick damp hair, sending the strayed pieces back to their normal places. I hustle over to the kid tripping over myself a couple times before reaching him.
Why am I so nervous?
“Hey kid! Wait up!” I yell.
“Are you gonna yell at me mister?” The kids whispers as he looks up at me through his shaggy hair.
