I get home later than I expected that day because I decided to walk. When I walk through the door, I head straight for my bedroom. It had been a long, long day and I needed some rest. I walk into the room and see Michael past out on MY bed still covered in sand.
Welp. I guess I’m sleeping on the couch tonight.
After I get changed, I go out into the living room to find the couch is being occupied by Zach. I let out a sigh.
“Zach are you gonna be out here much-” He hold up his hand shutting me up. He was on the phone.
“..okay bro, pretty sure we can make it. Can’t wait. Bye.” He puts his phone down and walks over to me. “Sorry dude that was Vic, he wants us to come to Ariel’s place for a barbeque. I told him me and you could go, but Michael can’t cus’ he’ll be in San Diego in the morning. Is that cool with you? He said Ariel has some friends in town, and they're apparently pretty cute AND Allstar Weekend fans.” He says while nudging me in the arm.
I laugh a little. To exhausted to be excited about this, plus I only really care about one girl at the moment. Danielle. I still haven’t gotten her off my mind. And apparently it shows because then Zach asks me.
“Dude. You okay? You seem really distracted, and not your normal annoying happy self.” He gives a smart aleck smile.
“I met a girl today.” Looking at the floor so he can’t see me blushing. I tell him the whole story, about how we met, what she looks like, etc. I spent the longest time on her eyes. Normally I’m a brown eye guy, but I just got so lost in her’s. Zach seriously had to shut me up because I was just babbling about them. I told him how she was the simple kind of beauty that I find the most gorgeous. And the fact that she was clumsy and nervous and everything I am just made me more interested.
“Do you think I’m an idiot for falling for someone I seriously know nothing about?’
“Cam, all the years I’ve know you, you have never talked about a girl this way before. Normally I would tell you screw her and don’t get tied down, but I think she might be your one. That is if you ever see her again.”
I think back to our conversation. “She did say she was staying in Poway!” I say so fast my voice switches an octive.
Zach puts a hand on my shoulder “Calm down there buddy. Did she say anything else?”
“Well no, but the bus she was riding was taking her to Creek Park drive…so she can’t be too far away.” After I say that I’m starting to realize Poway isn’t that small. The actual chance of me finding her is pretty slim. Zach must have seen the hope starting to fade from my face.
“Hey, don’t sweat it man. If this girl is so special to you, fait will have its way with the situation.” He gives me a pat on the shoulder and then heads upstairs to his room.
“I guess so.” And with that I plop myself on the couch and stare at the ceiling. I really don’t want to lose the feeling I had with her. I’ve never been in love before, but I think I could be with her.
“Goodnight Danielle…where ever you are.”
