EMMA

It is a lazy weekend dawn. I wake up to the smooth aroma of coffee  wriggling from the kitchen.

"Good morning, dear." I say to Ana and prop myself on the kitchen counter.

"Morning. Coffee?" she wishes back and pours me a mug from the pot of coffee.

"Thanks."

Ana interrupts me just seconds before my lips touch the rim.

"Hey! Your phone's ringing."

"Just a second." I say and make my way out.

Reaching for my phone, I see Mr. Collins's name flashing on the screen.

'What job does a senior editor have with me after the anniversary?' I think out loud and tap to answer.

"Good morning, Mr. Collins. How can I help you?" I ask in a serious but polite tone.

"Morning, Miss Grey. I am sure you can be of great help." he replies in a fluffy voice.

"I am all ears."

"So Miss Grey, I want you to..."

After ten minutes, I enter exasperated in the kitchen, cursing and swearing.

Mikey must have come when I was attending the call because the duo stare at me with huge question marks on their faces. I must have shouted really loud but right now, I really don't care.

"Curse them all." I repeat.

"Okay. Keep your curses down and spit out the matter." Mikey orders.

"Guys, the matter is of serious consideration. You see, the Bradshaw Enterprises will be soon turning seven and Steven Bradshaw wants to publish a journal about his company. Now, since he is a major benefactor of our publishing house, he wants one of our staffs to take responsibility of the journal." I pause to breathe.

"I am well aware of that. Where's the issue? The senior editors have already assigned Sophie that job." says Ana.

"That's what!" Mikey backs her.

"Exactly. Now, here comes the twist. Sophie submitted her resignation letter this morning. So, Mr. Collins selected me for that stupid job. Bradshaw wants to hire that person temporarily, like for about three months and Mr. Collins send my name in a haste because Bradshaw's PA has been been pestering him for the last two days." I finish waspishly.

"And you don't want to work for the journal?" Mikey raises a brow.

"Of course, I don't want to. Is there a single reason why I should work for a worthless journal? I work in a publishing house for the last three years and I will suddenly work for a company's journal? Whom are they kidding?"

"Look, there are definitely issues but can you help it? That guy is going to pay you, pay a heavy amount and you are only gonna work temporarily. After three months, you will be back. Then again, you are to work for the journal and not as his PA that you are required to be at his beck and call. Not that you should complain. He is one drop-dead gorgeous specimen." Ana streches her arms like she reached some dreamy universe.

"I think that she has a point. Moreover, you don't have much choice Emma. Actually, you don't have any choice. They have already decided that you will take up the job. So, the matter might be contradicting your desire but it's inevitable. Apart from the 'drop-dead gorgeous specimen' remark, I support Ana." says Mikey, giving Ana a glare.
