The first thing Jungkook saw when he gradually opened his eyes was the face of Taehyung, who was still watching him, almost like he was afraid to look away in case he disappeared.

Jungkook reached up and held the side of his face, rubbing his thumb gently over his cheek. Tae leant into the touch, closing his eyes in a paused blink.

"Hey" Tae whispered.

"Now this is a sight I never thought I would see again." Jungkook's voice was raspy from sleep.

"Me too."

They stared at each other, their gazes locked, small smiles on both their faces as Tae melted under Jungkook's touch.

"Tae, we have so much to talk about but I do have to go soon..." Jungkook's heart sank when he saw the instant glassiness appear in Tae's eyes, he softened his voice as much as he could "... we will talk. I promise. We can arrange a meeting right now and I promise I will be there. I just... I need to get my story together so I can get away."

Tae moved closer, wincing as he moved his knees, resting his head on Jungkook's chest.

"Do you want me back?" Tae didn't want to see his face in case it was the worst possible answer.

Jungkook stroked his hair "I've always wanted you back. From the moment you left the airport. When I moved back, I wasn't sure if you wanted me because you were happy and had a boyfriend but then I saw you at our special place on our anniversary and I knew, I knew I had to try."

"At first, I was there all the time. I never lost hope, Kookie. No matter what you think you know or what anyone sees... I never once lost hope... well, maybe for a split second when I knew you were back with a wife... but for 6 years... I've dreamed of having you back."

"This isn't going to be easy, Tae. We have a lot of talking to do but I will do anything. I promised you that day that I would come back and now I promise you that I will do whatever it takes, I won't be taken from you again."

Jungkook frowned, concern etched his face as he felt Tae tremble as he started crying. He shifted them both and forced Tae to look at him, wiping away the tears with his thumbs, trying to hush him and whisper calming words.

"You kept... your promise... and... and... I didn't... I didn't keep mine."

"That doesn't matter, it really doesn't matter. You said you would wait for me and technically you have, after what you just told me. Tae, 6 years is a long time. I'm so sorry."

Before he left, Jungkook had changed the dressings on Tae's knees, even though he protested a lot. Tae phoned in sick for the first time and sent a photo of his knees to his boss, promising he would be in tomorrow but his boss had phoned him immediately and given him the rest of the week off. Jungkook had laughed at how unhappy Tae was about being given that much time off but told him to rest.

They swapped numbers and Tae thought his heart would burst, being able to have contact with Jungkook again. Leaving was difficult, Tae couldn't bring himself to say goodbye... it was 6 years ago that he last said goodbye and he couldn't say it. Jungkook didn't fare any better, he couldn't say it either and his feet wouldn't work because he was the one leaving again.

He got Tae comfortable on the sofa, brought his duvet through from his bedroom to put over him, made him a drink and made sure he had his phone, laptop and the tv remote by his side. Jungkook, did whatever he could to delay the moment he had to leave. He held Tae's face in his hands, looked him square in the eyes and promised him that he would be round tomorrow. Tae was suddenly much happier about the time off, even though the hours between now and then would feel like a lifetime.
