It was the rattle of keys that awoke me from a daze, it was already 4:00pm, and the family were back! Jane stepped into the hallway where I could hear faint mumblings of her questioning them. Joining the discussion, I inquired about the gunshots that occurred a few weeks back. Each one of them took turns in saying they did not know but their son looked away as if trying to hide something. Looking into his eyes, I asked the boy one more time did he know anything about the gunshot? At this point he burst into tears as he explained the whole story of how he was just aiming for the fun of it but didn’t realise that the gun was loaded. Before he knew it, a bullet was flying through the air, and hit me in the stomach.
I felt bad for the boy actually; his whole body shook as he cried. He looked around 12 years old but obviously did not know the full extent his father’s plot.
The police arrived at that moment just as the parents of the boy began to look uncomfortable and make their way towards the front door as if to escape. Before I knew it, the police dragged the whole family away and took them to the police station for questioning.
