A tear fell onto my cheek, but it didn’t belong to me. It belonged to my neighbour, and my best friend, Jane. For as long as I knew, we had been really close friends, and decided to move in next to each other a few years ago. Jane was sobbing. It was the worst feeling ever, to wake up realising that I had caused this. Her whole body shook and she clung onto me, still not realising that I had woken. Trying to lift up my head to see where I was, my head collapsed back onto the bed, making it even more painful to do anything.

A doctor rushed into the room and stared at my stomach, eyes wide open, as the colour drained from his face. A pained but thoughtful look glinted in his eyes as he tore his eyes away from my wound. Out of the corner of my eye I witnessed Jane looking at me with a melancholy expression forming on her pale, but beautiful features. Her eyes gazed into mine and they locked, neither one of us daring to tear them away.
