Chapter 14 - Confusion

Karyn's P.O.V

I notice that immediately I open my eyes the walls around me are white and there's a strong smell of disinfectant. I try to sit up and I feel a slight throbbing in my head but it's not that bad.

I guess I'm at the hospital because I notice a nurse sorting some things on a desk at my bedside.

"Hello. Good afternoon." She says handing me a glass of water because my throat feel like dry.

"Thank you, how long have I been here?" I ask.

"Well your boyfriend brought you in yesterday evening. He's such a sweet guy you got there. He left very late last night and was here immediately the hospital opened. You're such a lucky girl. If I had a boyfriend like that-" she says dreamily but I cut her off recalling yesterday's events.

"My boyfriend?? Uh you must be-" I start but she interrupts me again.

"Yes your boyfriend. You know.... the one who brought you here. We ran some tests on you and he was the only one here for you so he made all the necessary arrangements for your treatments." She says.

I feel a embarass that Julio had to see me in that state. I'm usually a bitch to him and now he had to come to my rescue.

"Well he's not my boyfriend. Yuck. He's not even my friend. Hell no. We just go to the same school unfortunately." I cringe in disgust. Julio is just not my type. I don't do stereotypes but he's made me feel rich foreign people are all stuck up like him and I'm too down to earth to relate with them.

"Well you should be grateful to him because due to his act of kindness you're healthy. If he didn't bring you in, you would have had serious infections and other complicated issues. He even prevented your test results from being seen by anyone except you and him." She says analysing me.

"He can do that?"

"Yes his uncle kind of runs this hospital."She says in a duh tone. This nurse is starting to get in my nerves.

"Trust Julio to have the right connections " I scoff.

"I'm surprised he even did you a favour considering the type of attitude and temper you got there. Here are your test results." She says with a nasty look on her face.

"Excuse me, Miss. I'm pretty sure my memory is still good and I don't recall a time when I asked for your opinion about my life or is it in your job description to say absolute shit." I say with a serious expression.

She looks shocked at what I just said.

"Kindly pass me my test papers and piss off." I say raising an eyebrow.

She hands it to me and scoffs out the word 'bitch'.

"I heard that. Oh and on your way out please get me a nurse who knows the meaning of minding her own business and doesn't fantasize over a guy who's almost 10 years younger than her. " I say.

She's about to speak up but is interrupted by a knock on the door.

"I guess that's the universe's way of telling you to fuck off. " I say reading through my test results.and shoring the words 'come in'.

I hear the nurse make her way outside while the visitor comes in. I don't bother to look up because of what I read on the test results. The beginning part looks really bad talking about the multiple cuts on my back along with lack of sleep and slight malnutrition until I reach a particular pragraph which just mortifies me.

Patient has showed signs of continous  rape/sexual abuse and has slight bruises around her genital area.

I can't believe Julio read this. No wonder he prevented anyone from seeing this. Oh my gosh. If I thought him bringing me to the hospital was embarrassing, this is  pure disgrace.

What will he think of me?

Will he report to the police?

How could I be so stupid?

How could I-

I didn't notice my breathing was increasing rapidly until I felt a hand run my back soothingly although it was hurting a little because of the injuries.

"Calm down. It's ok. Breathe in breathe out." The person said rubbing my back soothingly. I try my best and finally calm down.

It's just then I notice that it was Julio who walked into the room and his hand was on my back which was bare due to the hospital gown. I think he notices my train of thought because he takes his hand away uncomfortably and drops it by his side like I'm repulsive.

"Looks like you've seen the rest results. Well look I didn't tell anyone about it even your family." he says looking very uncomfortable but before he's able to continue the door is swung open by no other that my sister Jade.

She runs towards my bed and hugs me. I can see slight traces of tears in her eyes, behind her are Jace and Skylar who look relieved to see me awake.

"What happened to you?"

"Are you ok?"

"You gave quite a scare"

They all say at the same time saving me from answering Julio.

"What did the doctors say?" Skylar asks and I subtly close the test results. I slightly panic but Julio saves me by answering her question.

"Well the doctors said that she's not eating or sleeping well and it's stressing her out so that's why she fainted because she was weak. She'll be ok and be out of the hospital on Friday evening. She would be placed on some drugs along with some supplements. She has been asked to eat well and take her drugs so she'll be fine." Julio explains with no sign that he's lying.

My siblings along with Skylar begin to scold me and start telling me about school. Looks like I missed Wednesday. Skylar took excuses for me for all my classes and I'm very grateful.

"Well Karyn hasn't eaten anything today and it's already 6pm. I'll go get some food for her. Anyone wants to join me for an early dinner so we can bring some back for her." Julio asks looking kinda out of place.

"Yeah we will" Jade says motioning towards her and Jace.

Julio looks at Skylar and she politely declines saying that she'll stay with me and eat dinner at home. The rest leave and Skylar fills me in on everything from last night.

"I was kinda surprised when he said he was staying at the hospital with you. He wasn't even at school today because he was here. I told you he was not that bad a person." She says.

I decide not to reply to her statement but feel down I knew that she was right.
