"That's a loaded question." Y/N laughs. She grabs a cookie and takes a bite, taking a brief repose as she considers the question.
I take this moment to finally take a sip of my tea, my hand is on the verge of cramping but the stories she tells are totally worth it. I'm completely enraptured in what she tells.
By the way, she makes really good tea.
Y/N washes down the cookie with the last of her tea and settles her hands in her lap. "No, I didn't have anything to do with the business. Jaebum made sure that that stuff stayed out of our personal life as best he could."
"I won't lie though, of course I knew what they did. He had already admitted he was a criminal to me. Leading a high ranking faction of the mob may be a job that is hidden within the shadows but it's hard to keep it discrete from your wife." She chuckles again.
"He always said that the ring on my finger was dangerous, a threat to my life in a way, and I told him I could live in danger as long as it was with him."
"He really was the love of your life..." I mumble, my eyes locking onto the silver band that remains on her left ring finger.
She glances down at it smiling. "We were destined for each other, there's not a doubt in my mind about that."
Another quick laugh escapes, "Here's a story for you."
~
You're standing in the kitchen, cleaning vegetables for the soup you plan to make. You pause, hearing the front door open and close, and the familiar sound of your husbands sneakers squeaking as he removes them.
"I'm home! Don't come out here, I need to do some laundry." He calls as you hear him walk towards the bathroom. You hum in response, resuming your vegetable cleaning.
When he hasn't shown his face by the time you've got the soup on you decide to find him despite his previous instructions.
When you pop your head into the bathroom you find him standing in front of the sink, shirtless. He has his white shirt in the sink, scrubbing at it furiously, what you assume was previously red is now a gross brown colored stain.
He looks over at you, grinning sheepishly as he sets the shirt down. He wipes his hands on his trousers and walks over to you, enveloping you in a hug, his head resting on top of yours.
You lean back to look up at him, a pout forming on your lips. "I really wish you'd let me take care of that, you're awful at laundry. How many shirts have you had to burn at this point?"
He smiles down at you, pressing a kiss to your forehead and returning to the sink. "That's far too much for me to ask of you, this is my mess to take care of. Besides, you're cooking dinner!"
His voice is soft but cheerful, the man standing here in your homes bathroom is what you would assume is the complete opposite of what he must have been in the hours before while he was working.
You sigh, your tone exasperated as you mutter about having to shop for new clothes. Jaebum chuckles as he hears your voice fade into the kitchen, his heart fluttering from the memory of your touch on his skin.
Jaebum soon enters the kitchen, freshly showered and in clean clothes. He hugs you from behind as you stir the soup, breathing in the smell deeply. He rests his head on your shoulder as you continue to chide him.
You can't see it, but his love for you is evident on his face. The man holding you in his arms may be a murderer, an extortionist, and who knows what else, but no one can deny that his world revolves around you.
"Let's go shopping together, we'll make a date of it."
You sigh, giving up on your scolding and agree.
