I'm startled awake by a knock on my small bedroom door. "Come in!" I call out, my voice groggy. I yawn, rubbing my eyes as I adjust to the dim room. The door opens and closes, Neo entering my bedroom. He laughs a little at my appearance, my hand instantly flying to my short hair to comb it out with my fingers. I jokingly roll my eyes, throwing my legs over the bed and standing straight.
"Did you finish programming that new update? Tank has been up my ass asking for it" Neo says, eyes wandering to the computer in my cramped room. Thankfully, I requested to get a computer in my room and Tank did me a favor by getting me one. It took some convincing, but after showing Tank my skills, I told him if he gave me a computer I could make new updates for him. He gave in of course, but that meant I would soon be spending my time making updates non stop.
I sigh, nodding. I stride to the computer, tapping the space bar on the keyboard to jolt it to life. "Sorry for waking you up, but it is lunch time. Did you stay up late or something?" he asks, concern raising in his voice. I laugh, typing away at my computer as I lean over the desk chair. "Something like that" I say, a disk popping out the side of the computer. I pull it out, grabbing a marker from the desk and scribbling a code of numbers on it as I copy it off the screen. I can feel Neo's gaze on me, studying me slowly.
I turn to him, handing him the fresh CD and quickly pulling out a sheet cover for it. I slide it in the sheet, letting him grab it. He nods, looking at the CD and then me. He stands there for a moment, hesitating to say something. "You good?" I ask, about to laugh. He sighs, shaking his head. "I know stuff is different on the ship and we exactly...how do I say this- do you wanna go out some time?" he blurts out, meeting my eyes. I study his pale face and raven hair, smiling.
Well, didn't see that coming. Especially after I just woke up. I wait a minute to respond, pretending to think. I can see his slim figure starting to grow anxious. "Yeah sure" I say, breaking the suspense. We hold onto each side of the CD, holding it up in the air. He sighs in relief, smiling from ear to ear. "G-great, I'll come back after I help Morpheus with the new kid" he says, walking out of my room with a smirk.
