"He better come on time today" I huff under my breath.
I walk up to the makeup trailer, pulling my coat closer to me in the cold of the October morning. I pull the key out of my coat pocket, unlocking the door and getting into the trailer. I set the key down, flicking on the lights. I come face to face with my work station, bright fluorescent bulbs lighting the makeup counter. I sigh as the warmth of the heaters hit my skin, unzipping my fall jacket. I drop my coat on the chair in the corner, making my way to the makeup desk. I start to unpack my makeup station, the same hand movements as the four previous weeks of filming. I place the multiple foundations and brushes on the counter in front of me, the brightness of the fluorescent bulbs burning my eyes slightly. I check the clock on the corner of the table, a bright 5:04 staring back at me.
"You have 26 minutes Mr. Reeves" I mutter to myself, putting my hands on my hips. I sigh, grabbing my pack of cigarettes from my coat in the corner of the trailer. I step out of the trailer, not bothering to grab my coat. I sit on the steps of the trailer, lighting my cigarette. I inhale the smoke, letting it fill my lungs. I exhale, rolling my neck. It's funny because one day I went from a poor girl In new York with one eyebrow pencil to a girl who travels the world doing makeup for movies. I take drags of my cigarette, watching the sky turn different shades of pink and orange as the sun rises. There's a slight chill in the air, the leaves drifting in the wind. In the distance a black motorcycle pulls up, driving into the circle of filming trailers. I can instantly recognize the masked figure, his leather jacket hugging his defined chest. In the light of the sunrise, I notice Keanu. He takes off his black helmet. He gives me a big smile, his hair blowing in the wind.
He turns off his motorcycle, coming up to me with his helmet under arm. I finish the last of my cigarette quickly, putting out on the metal of the stairs. As he comes closer, I examine his outfits. His young lean body is dressed in tight black jeans, paired with a leather jacket and brown shoes. "You're early" I smile, looking at him. "Well, I figured be early then let you give me a mouthful over the phone" he laughs, sitting beside me. He picks the cigarette pack out of my hand, pulling one out and pulling a lighter from his leather jacket. He lights it, pulling it away from his lips. "Has River came yet?" he asks, meeting my eyes. I shake my head no, taking the cigarette from his fingers and taking a puff, placing it back in his fingers. I lean my head on my hand, sighing and closing my eyes for a moment. I can feel him looking at me, his gaze burning into me.
"You okay?" he asks in a low tone, gazing off into the sunrise. I open my eyes, a small smile on my face. "Yeah, it's just stressful doing this everyday" I mumble, standing up. He chuckles, standing up too. I watch him put out the newly lit cigarette. "I understand" he responds, following me into the trailer. He unzips his leather jacket, throwing it over mine on the chair. He sits in the chair at the makeup table, yawning and rubbing his face. He drops his helmet under the table. I place the pack of cigarettes on the table, leaning beside him. "You know, I kinda wish you were late. I like talking off your ear and hearing your panicked voice as you realized you were an hour late" I laugh, grabbing primer and putting some on my fingers. "I bet you would have" he responds, a flirty tone in his voice. I rub the primer onto his face, my fingers roaming his features. I remember when I first did makeup for him I was so nervous getting so close to him, now it feels normal. I tie my long black hair back In a bun, grabbing a small bottle of concealer, switching it for the primer.
I lean over, closing in on his face. I stick my tongue out a little in focus, putting concealer to his small blemishes. He laughs all of a sudden, making me do a double take. "what's wrong?" I ask, a playful frown on my face. "Nothing, it's just cute how you stick your tongue out like that" he smiles, meeting my eyes. I awkwardly laugh, embarrassed at a quirk I never noticed. "You always do that" he adds. Wait a minute. Did he just call me cute? or my tongue cute? or me being focused cute? this is so confusing. I look at him for a second, smiling like an idiot. I take a brush, leaning back in and blending out his face. The concealer near his chin refuses to blend out, making me lean further into his face. I finally realize how close we are when I can feel his breathing against my cheek. My eyes move up, locking with his. "Hey there" he whispers in a cute tone, a sly smirk painting his lips. I can feel my heart flutter for a moment, the awkward silence growing between us. Being this close to him...It feels far from abnormal, it feels safe. Like I belong this close to him. Like home.
I can feel his head move slowly towards mine, his eyes searching for an answer. He nose brushes mine, his breath against my lips. Why do I want this, why do I want him to kiss me. Why do I feel like I need it? The smell of cigarettes linger in his breath, mixing with the smell of laundry detergent coming off his clean clothes. I close my eyes, gaining a grip. I open them, the small space between our lips still lingering. I search his brown eyes, melting into the coffee color. I bite my lip in shyness, looking away from his gaze he has locked on me. "Keanu" I whisper in a low tone, looking back at him. "Don't speak" he mutters against my top lip. As he moves closer and closer, his top lip brushing mine, a knock interrupts us. He's going to kiss me. I'm going to kiss Keanu. The Keanu Reeves.
I pull away, looking at the trailer door. "Come in" I half shout, not daring to look back at Keanu. A blonde man bursts through the door with a theatrical smile, a tray of coffee in his hand. My heart try's to go back to normal pace, my hand shaky with anxiety. "River" Keanu says behind me, joy in his voice. I walk up to River, cupping his face and tapping it. "Thank you for the coffee, you just saved my ass from falling asleep on the job" I say, grabbing a coffee. I take a sip, letting the warm coffee melt into my mouth. I finally turn around, Keanu studying me from behind. His eyes are thinking, the clockwork moving in his head. River sits in the empty chair beside Keanu, silently handing him a coffee. He nods, throwing back a sip. Me and Keanu share a look, my cheeks turning a bright red. What just happened. Do I have feelings for him?
My eyes wonder to the clock in the corner as Keanu and river share a few words. A 6:00 stares back at me, panic running through me instantly. "shit!" I yelp, quickly placing the coffee on the makeup table. Keanu and River look at me in shock, eyes wide. "What's wrong?" Keanu asks, confusion hinting in the tone. "You have to be at costumes! it's 6" I add, quickly blending out his chin. He smiles, standing up and grabbing his jacket. "And you were worried about me being late" he laughs, walking over to the table, picking up my pack of cigarettes. He takes another, my eyes following his fingers as he places it between his lips. My mouth opens a little at the thought off almost kissing him. He gives me a smile between the cigarette, turning his back and leaving.
I turn around, looking at River. He has his eyebrows quirked, a smile on his face. "I'm not going to ask what that was about" he says, turning his attention to his coffee. I sigh, shaking my head. I head over to his seat, setting up his makeup.
Oh Keanu, you're such a tease.
