"Thanks for being with me Ted" I mutter shyly.
I let the cool night breeze flow through my curly blonde hair. Ted and I sit at the curb of a circle K, drinking soda and eating chips. I turn to look at him, studying his fluffy brown hair blowing in the wind. He looks at me smiling "It's nothing dude, we all have our bad nights!". I drop my head, smiling with embarrassment. I take a sip of my soda, placing the straw between my lips. "My dad is probably going to kill me for sneaking out, but at least I get to spend time with my most excellent friend" he adds. I look back at him, his stupid smile still painted on his face. I pick up a few chips from the bag popping them in my mouth. I look up at the midnight sky, stars slowly starting to appear by the passing hours. "My nightmares are getting worse" I say, sighing.
Ted looks at me, searching. "I'm sorry dudette, I'm sure it will get better!" he says, trying to lift my mood. He scoots closer to me, wrapping his free arm around my shoulders. In the distance a figure is running towards us, waving. Ted pulls away from my touch, standing up. As the figure gets closer, I recognize the familiar face. Bill runs toward us, tight blonde curls bouncing as his converse slap against the cement. He reaches us, bending over and gasping for air. "Sorry dude! I almost got caught sneaking out, but Missy let me go" he musters through his heavy breathing. Ted places his soda beside me, chest bumping Bill. I laugh, Bill and Ted exchanging words briefly. "How's Missy hanging?" Ted asks, his cheeks turning crimson red. "Ted, that's my mom!" Bill exclaims, hitting Ted in the shoulder.
I examine Bill. He's dressed in a grey cropped t-shirt, a long sleeve wrapped around his waist paired with red converse. This man must only own one outfit. I stand up, stepping towards Bill. Bill turns his gaze to me, looking me up and down quickly. A hint of pink rises in his cheeks, a smile growing on his face. "Hey Bill" I laugh, taking his hand and pulling him into a bro-shake. I take my other hand, bring my soda to my lips and sipping. Bill's gaze moves to my soda in my hand "You want some?" I offer. He shakes his head, taking it from my hand. He takes a big sip, fulfilling his quench from running. I step back over to the curb, sitting down once again. Bill and Ted follow, all three of us sitting in a row on the curb. Ted passes the bag of chips to Bill, Bill shoving a few in his mouth.
"So, now that we are all gathered here at the circle K.." Bill starts. Ted and Bill share a quick look, then looking at me. "We were wondering if you wanted to join our band" Ted finishes. I stare at them for a few seconds, sipping my soda. I take the straw away from my lips, smiling. "Of course" I respond. Bill and Ted high five each other, a grin on their faces. "Excellent!" they say at the same time, laughing after. "But what would I play?" I ask. Ted looks at me with a confident look "We were thinking that you could learn drums" he says. I nod my head, thinking about the decision. I never thought about it, but maybe I should. I mean, what harm could it cause? Plus, I get to do it with my best friends. "Alright, It sounds like a deal then" I add, smiling. Ted puts out a fist, waiting for a fist bump. I ball up a fist, lightly hitting it against his.
Bill stands up, dropping the bag of chips on the curb. He bends his knees a little, pretending to play air guitar. Ted stands up, joining him. I chuckle, drinking the last sip of my soda. I place the empty cup beside me. I stand up, briefly looking at the circle K behind me. A neon red lights casts from the store sign against Bill and Ted, illuminating them like a stage. I join them, dancing around to no music. I bounce from foot to foot, my hands in the air. A car pulls up, the window down and blasting music from a local radio station. Bill and Ted turning towards me, smiling. "Dance party dude!" Ted yells. They start to dance with me, the three of us dancing around in a circle k parking lot. I let my long blonde curls bounce around, softly hitting my face from time to time.
As the song ends, letting me slow down. I sit down on the cement, catching my breath. Bill and Ted sit down across from me, crossing their legs against their chest. We all share a look, long silence filled with heavy breathing between us. We burst out laughing, smiling from cheek to cheek at each other. Ted's hair sits a mess on his head from dancing, Bills face red from exercise. Bill looks at me a sly smirk, quickly dodging eye contact. This man is so clearly in love with me. What a weirdo.
"Thank you for this night guys" I say.
"You're welcome" they say at the same time, laughing at the perfect timing.
