It was the second week I was working at the academy. Most of the students came to love me and a few others were still cold towards me. I shrugged. "Their loss..." I muttered softly as I was sitting in front of Dr. Stein's computer in his lab. I recorded and documented all of his experiments and his supplies as he was in the back doing some more research. I leaned back and stretched after the hours I put into the book work. I yawned from exhaustion as I saved the documents and shut down the computer to give me the chance to finish everything first thing in the morning. A crash startled my thoughts as I stood up frantically looking around the room in confusion. "Stein, sir?" I called out as I made my way across the room.
"Everything is okay, dear..." I heard a voice call through the door leading to the downstairs lab.
I blushed in embarrassment from the title he gave me. I shook my head. "Just partners..." I thought as I made my way to my room to get everything ready to take a shower. Just then, a murmuring of cussing came through the door to the downstairs lab. I turned and ran quickly downstairs to see Dr. Stein in a bloodied mess with shattered glass beakers around his feet and stuck to his sweater. I sighed as I rushed over to him and helped pull off all of the shards of glass and get him sitting on one of the open examining tables so I could wrap up his wounds. As I was rushing to tend his injuries, he began to laugh as he watched me wrap them up helplessly. I look up at him and blush with a scowl on my face, "What is so funny?" I ask as I took a band-aid and slapped it onto the cut on his face.
He flinched slightly from the pain but gently grabbed my wrist to hold me in place. "What has been bothering you, (Y/N)" he asked calmly as his glasses were sitting on the other end of the examining table.
Blushing, I scowl as I attempt to get out of his grasp but fail miserably. "Nothing's wrong.." I try to force out convincingly. "Nothing is wrong except the fact that you are bleeding from breaking a glass beaker and think that it is funny when you could have seriously been injured!" I snapped on him with a crimson blush on my cheeks. "I know you are a mad scientist, but do you have ANY common sense whatsoever!?" I added infuriated.
He chuckled as he continued to hold my wrist. He moved my hand to where it was on his chest over his heart. "Can you feel it still beating?" he asked calmly. I nodded slowly with a red face from embarrassment. "Then I am fine," he stated as he let go of my hand. Accidentally I left it there for a moment more until I realized it was free. I then quickly moved it to my side with clenched fists as I walked out of the basement and headed upstairs towards my bedroom.

I was neck deep in a hot water bath and was relaxing comfortably with only my thoughts to keep me company. "God I am so stupid... I embarrassed myself in front of him and now he probably thinks I'm a creep..." I mumbled hopelessly to myself.
I heard a knock on the door causing me to snap out of my thoughts. "You have some mail waiting on your desk, (Y/N)" his voice called through the bathroom door. I blushed not thinking he cared.
"Thank you, Dr. Stein," I called back through the door. "Are you feeling better?" I asked referring to his wounds.
I heard a sigh on the other side of the door followed by a chuckle. "I am fine. Thank you for taking care of my wounds," he replied with humor.
I sunk farther underwater in the tub trying to hide my blush. "Damn you Stein..." I murmured to myself and screamed in my thoughts. I heard footsteps leave farther down the hall until I heard a door shut. I finished my bath and dressed in a loose set of flannel pajamas. They were one of Stein's old sets and he gave them to me since I wasn't prepared to stay for very long. They were an off white and had dark grey stitching in multiple, random places.
I walked to my room until I heard a voice a bit down the hallway. "Why are you staying here? You should leave... You don't belong here..." the voice stated. I looked around and thought I saw Stein but I blinked and the image was gone. I shook my head with much confusion but shrugged and went into my room.
I put my belongings in a heap near my desk and picked up my mail. I walked over to my bed and laid down on it onto my stomach and looked through the mail. I pulled out an interesting piece. "A postcard? I wonder from who..." I stated a bit aloud as I read the message scripted on the back of it.
My eyelids drooped heavily making it hard to read the note. I shrugged as I placed the mail on my nightstand and shuffled under the covers falling asleep with dreams filled with blood-spill and death and destruction. I slept heavily with a mind full of nightmares and fears.
