Like I said in the last chapter, I was homeschooled at one point, and I would often leave the table when doing my schoolwork because the chair would be uncomfortable after a while and I usually moved out to the front room.
Almost every time I sat out there to do my schoolwork when I was home alone, I would hear drawers opening and closing, especially the ones in my parent's room. They have a distinctive sound so I can always tell them apart from the others. I also heard footsteps going from one end of the hallway to the other. Our floor creaks when you walk on it, but you can only hear it when you're on the floor below it. And if you listen carefully, you can even figure out who's walking by listening to the creak pattern. I usually would hear my mom's footsteps. She has the most distinctive pattern: creak pause creak creak pause creak.
I used to get really creeped out by it and sometimes even checked the whole house to make sure there wasn't a burglar. Why I thought it was a good idea to call out "IF THERE'S A BURGLAR IN THIS HOUSE THEN SHOW YOURSELF" I don't know. But I'm used to it by now. I've just learned to stay upstairs when I'm home alone and I don't hear the creaks or the drawers.
To be honest, I never even thought to tell anyone until only like a month ago. My mom was all like "You actually heard that? And you were still fine staying home alone?!" Uh, I don't know? XD I was thirteen, maybe fourteen? I didn't have good reasoning skills. Besides, it was only noises. I never saw anything, so I kinda just assumed it was my imagination. I haven't heard these noises in a few years, so maybe they're done.
