Chapter 9

In the movie Ryan did what he always did to woe girls and everything he did had a hidden message; he kept a respectable distance between them but took her hand half way through. This says that he respects her and can wait to get serious, but it also said that he wasn’t too shy to make a move.

After the movie he took her to the best restaurant in town; “But this place is really expensive.” Layla protested at first.

“When you dine with a lady, you give her the best.” He replied with a charming smile.

“You don’t have to.”

“Please, I insist.”

“Ok then if you’re sure.”

When they got to their table the waiter gave them menus and gave them time to decide.

“Order whatever you want and don’t worry about the price.” This was a way of telling her he’s not afraid to spoil her.

“What are you ordering?” She asked.

“Whatever you’re having.” That said that he was willing to follow her and trust her judgment.

After dinner he dropped her off at her house and gave her a peck kiss on the lips to show that he is interested, even though there was only one girl for him.

She smiled; “Thank you for everything, I had a really good time.”

“Me too.”

“We should do it again sometime.”

“Defiantly.”

“Goodnight Ryan.”

“Goodnight.” He said and made his way back to the limo and went straight to home.

When he got there he got fresh lemonade for himself and Jen, knocked on her door and she invited him in; “Hey, I thought I’d be nice and bring you something to drink.”

“Where do you find a king that brings one of his one of his subjects lemonade?” She asked taking the drink.

“One you are my friend and two you don’t count as a subject since you don’t listen to anything I say.”

“Good point, so how did the date go?”

“It was nice.”

“Nice? Is that the best you can do?”

“It was the first date and first dates never get any better than nice.”

“I wonder why that is.”

“Because on the first date nothing really happens, the two parties just talk and get to know each other.”

“Well I guess things have improved since my days as a human, back then standing to close to a man you were not married to would cause huge scandal.”

“You probably loved causing scandal.”

“Well you know me.” As she said it lemonade spilled on her shirt. “Shit.”

“A klutz as always.”

“I’m not even going to try and deny it. You have to go so that I can change the shirt… wait, never mind what’s the point.” Before he could react she took off her shirt and walked to her closet.

“Uh Jen?”

“What, now you’re gonna stop me from taking off my clothes, a little late for that don’t you think?”

“And we’re back to that.” He said miserably.

“I don’t see what the point in being modest, if I don’t have anything you haven’t seen.”

“Come on Jen it’s not like you’re a virg…” but something in Jen’s face made him stop, “You were, weren’t you?”

“Just shows what you think of me if you’re so surprised.” She said bitterly.

“No I don’t mean it like that, it’s just faeries don’t usually wait this long.”

“Forget about it, it doesn’t matter now.”

“Jen…”

“Drop it Ryan!” She snapped.

“Sorry.”

After Ryan opened Jennsen’s old wounds she went out for a walk to escape all his apologies that would never change anything; what’s done is done and a few empty words won’t undo it, so it’s better if both of them just move on from it.

She realized that she brought it up, but she couldn’t help it; the opportunity was there to make a snippy comment and she had to take it, it was her way of preventing them from getting to cozy with each other.

As she was walking on the sidewalk she ran into Chase; “Hey.”

“Oh hi Jennsen, how have you been?”

“Um… my day wasn’t a total bitch, and you?”

“I’m good and about to be better.”

“Why?”

“I’m going to the bar for a decent drink, wanna join?”

“No thanks, I’ve had enough of alcohol for a while.”

“Wow, that’s an unusual thing for a faerie to say.”

“It’s caused me a few headaches so yeah…” It took her a moment to register what he just said, “I’m sorry, but what did you just call me?”

“A faerie.”

“Is there any particular reason why you called me a faerie?”

“Yeah, because you are one.”

“And why would you think that?”

“Because I know.”

“How?”

“My father is a faerie.”

“You’re a Halfling?” She asked surprised.

“Last time I checked.’”

“Holly shit, who’s your father; maybe I know him.”

“Zain.”

“I’m sorry what did you just say?”
