Sam's POV

I wake up with a start. I'm breathing heavily and I'm really sweaty; the outcome of a nightmare. I look at the clock and see it's 02:43. I sigh and get out of bed, making my way to the bathroom. Splashing cold water on my face usually helps me to calm down, but today is different; not even the cold shock is enough.

I dry my face and decide to check on Quinn. She's peacefully sleeping in her bed, hugging her Winnie-the-Pooh close. I smile and kneel beside her bed, watching her for a second, before reaching up to move her hair out of her face. She leans into my touch and I kiss her temple, satisfied when she smiles slightly.

I stand up and make my way back to room and try to get some more sleep.

Lying in bed, I replay the nightmare in my head, over and over again. I don't remember a lot from before Dad helped Mom and I get away from Him, but what I do remember, is enough to keep me awake at night; the beatings, the cigarette burns on my chest, the crying. It all comes back to me. This time; however, is worse. This time, instead of seeing young me crying and screaming for the pain to stop, I see Quinn.

Her clothes are gone and her face is dirty. Blood and bruises are visible all over her body as I'm trying to help her, trying to run towards her. I can't move, it's like my feet are stuck to the floor.

I close my eyes and open them again, stopping myself from replaying the scene in my head. I sit up and check the clock again. It's been an hour since I first woke up.

Realizing I won't fall back to sleep, I take my laptop of my desk and open up my work files. During the year that I have been working in Book City, I've been promoted from the display editor, whose job is editing the font, size and pages of books, to content editor, whose job is editing the actual writing and making sure its grammatically correct.

I pick a book called Winter's Adventures Book 1: Family and start editing it. Winter's Adventures is a book about a young werewolf girl called Winter, who runs away with her twin brother as her pack is being destroyed. They stumble into other young creatures like Griffins and Vampires and make friends. That's as far as I've read and edited by the time I hear my parents wake up.

I close my laptop and make my way downstairs, greeting my parents and walking to the kitchen. I start making pancakes, knowing that Quinn likes them, and wait for my Princess to wake up. After a few minutes, my parents come into the kitchen.

"You look tired, Sam," My mom tells me once I turn to them. I nod and sigh.

"I woke up at around 3am and couldn't fall asleep again. It's alright though, I'll just go to sleep early tonight." I tell her. She nods and we talk for a while whilst I'm making our breakfast.

Half an hour later, I hear a cry coming from upstairs.

Quinn's POV

I wake up and feel that my bed and pajamas are wet. I realize I wet my bed and start to cry. Sam is going to be so mad! I think to myself. After crying for a few seconds, I hear someone running up the stairs and bursting into my room. I see it's Sam, and I start to cry harder.

He looks at me and walks towards me. "What's the matter, Princess?" He asks gently. I shake my head and carry on crying, not wanting him to know. Sam narrows his eyes at me and sits down on my bed, placing his hand on my blanket. I think he felt it was wet, because he moves his hand away quickly.

"Did you wet your bed, Quinn?" He asks me gently. I cry harder, if that's even possible, and nod. Sam stands up and makes his way to my wardrobe, and takes out some clothes. "It's okay, come on, you need to clean yourself up." He tells me. I look at him and see him smiling slightly at me. I cock my head to the side. Why isn't he angry?
