Chapter 8
-:-:-
'Is this a joke?' Julia texts me and I grin at the phone.
'Nope he ducking asked me to one of his games and then to get something to eat!!!' I send. When I reread the message, I chuckle to myself.
'Fucking* lol damn autocorrect' I correct myself.
'Good one. Anyways.. GET THE BEER CUZ HOLAY SHIAT WE GON' PARTY! :D'
I smile widely at the phone and chuckle.
"Whatcha laughing at?" Michael asks me from his seat. I look over to him, and he's staring at me with an amused look on his face.
"Oh, just texting my sister."
"I didn't know you had a sister."
"Yeah, she's in college. I told her about Luke and she's freaking out," I say and let out a small laugh.
The sides of his mouth turn back down and he stops smiling.
"Oh yeah. So when is the date?" he asks, taking a bite out of his sandwich.
I bite into my granola bar as well just so Michael doesn't worry. He always makes a big fuss whenever I don't eat my full lunch.
"Oh I don't know, he hasn't texted me yet," I say and look up at Luke. He's staring down at his phone, a concentrated look on his face. He licks his lips and types something before shaking his head and typing something else.
My phone buzzes next to me and I pick it up, saving his number into my phone.
'Hey'
He really took that much time to send me a 'hey'?
'Hi :)' I type back and look up at him. He's looking at me and smiling.
'So my next game is in two days. Are we still on?'
'Yeah I can't wait' I text back. I don't want to seem too eager.
I look up at Luke and he sends me a smile and puts his phone away. I look over at Michael and he's glaring at his food.
"You okay?" I ask him, holding back a laugh.
"Yeah," he grumbles and lets out a sigh, looking over to me.
A smile grows on his face and we just look at each other for a couple seconds. A blush starts to creep along my cheeks, but I am not losing this staring competition.
His smile grows, if that's even possible, and he sends me a wink.
I can't contain my laugher, and blink, looking down for a second and wiping at my watering eyes.
"You cheated," I whine, looking back up at him.
"Nah, I'm just using my good looks as an advantage."
"Oh, alright," I tease and grin at his fake hurt.
"I'll have you know that my mother thinks that I am very attractive," he says.
"She's the only one then."
"You're mean," he says in a little girl voice and sticks out his bottom lip.
Okay, that's incredibly cute.
A laugh escapes me and he grins widely back at me.
"What's your favorite type of candy?" he asks me, bringing his hand up to lean his chin on.
I put my hand up to my face and stroke my imaginary beard, thinking.
"I'd have to say sour skittles."
"Woah me too!' he exclaims and I chuckle at his enthusiastic response.
"Why?"
"Don't worry about it."
"Okay, well that was incredibly suspicious," I laugh and finish up my granola bar.
He reaches his hand over the table and makes a grabbing motion towards my trash. I hand it to him and he stands up to throw it away.
As he walks up to the front of the room, a wide smile appears on my face. How is he so damn nice?
"I can walk, you know," I say as he gets closer to the table.
"Why won't you just accept that I'm a gentleman?" he asks me, sitting down.
"You? A gentleman?" I ask, laughing.
"Hey! I can be chivalrous."
"I'm surprised you even know that word," I tease. He shakes his head at me and grins.
We look at each other for a couple seconds before he collapses on the table and groans.
"Say something," he says, his voice muffled by his sweatshirt sleeve.
"What?"
"I want to keep talking to you but I don't know what to talk about," he explains and picks his head back up.
"Uh.. what sport do you play?" I ask, thinking about his practice sessions with Calum.
He bursts out in a fit of laughter. "Sport?" he says in between chuckles.
"What?"
"You think I play a sport?" He laughs again. "I am the most lazy person you will ever meet."
"But you were talking with Calum about practicing!" I explain so I don't sound too dumb.
"Practicing music!" he adds, "I play guitar and he plays the bass."
I slap my forehead, chuckling. I can't believe I thought Michael played a sport.
"So are you guys in a band?"
"Nah we just jam together."
"Wait so does Luke also play something?" I say, getting excited.
"Yeah, guitar and he sings." He says, looking down at his hands. "He put up some covers on YouTube. You should check them out and embarrass him on the date or whatever."
I slam my hand on the table in excitement. "Dude this is so cool! Guys that can sing are so hot."
I cover my mouth, looking down with embarrassment. I didn't mean for that to come out.
"You know..." Michael starts, "I sing a little too."
"Really?"
He nods and I smile. "Can you sing for me?"
"One day, baby cakes," he says and chuckles. "One day."
My nose scrunches up.
"Baby cakes?"
"I don't know it felt appropriate at the time," he says and shrugs.
