Alyssa ran into the tower to be met with heavy silence. She went to her and Steve's room to see it empty. He's probably in the gym.
She turned to hear the broadcast coming from another room.
"Wanda?" Alyssa asked cautiously walking into her room.
"I killed them. You guys taught me what to do and I still killed them." Wanda sobbed into her hands.
"Hey." she hugged Wanda, "you didn't kill anybody, Rumlow did, it's not your fault." she told her slowly letting Wanda cry into her arms. Wanda eventually fell asleep and Alyssa left to the gym to find Steve punching a punching bag aggressively before stopping and looking at her.
"I don't want to talk." he said before going back to punching the bag.
"When your ready, I'll be too." she frowned before going to their room and changing. She laid on their bed reading a book and waited for Steve to finish letting out his anger and stress. He walked past her and into their bathroom. She heard the shower start running, she sat and waited patiently. Steve came out wearing no shirt and black shorts.
"Are you ready to talk?" she looked at Steve.
"Yeah. It's just I... I failed the mission." Steve said stirring next to her.
"Babe.. you couldn't have predicted any of this." Alyssa touched his arm consolingly.
"But I could have." he stood up angrily, "Rumlow said Bucky and all of a sudden, I'm some kid in Brooklyn without a conscious. I could've clocked that bomb vest but I didn't and people died." Steve looked to his girl.
"You saved so much more people, but you can't have a minor setback beat you up. It's devastating Steve but you can't wallow in self pity forever." Alyssa finished. He squatted in front of his girl so they would be leveled.
"How does just looking at you make me feel a hundred times better?" Steve grabbed the girls hand caressing the one with the ring.
"Because you love me and I love you." she smiled softly before connecting their lips. Alyssa scooted back giving Steve more room to climb on top of her. He kissed down her neck removing her shirt in the process.
"Steve are you sure you want to-" Steve cut her off by reconnecting their lips.
"I just want to do something that will distract me." he looked down at her briefly. She nodded her head in response before flipping him over and slipping off his shorts. The two spent the rest of the night entangled in each other.
1 MONTH LATER..
Alyssa woke up to an empty bed. She listened carefully to hear a news broadcast. She got up and walked towards the noise coming from Steve's office.
"11 Wakandans were among those killed during a confrontation between the Avengers and a group of mercenaries in Lagos, Nigeria, last month. The traditionally reclusive Wakandans were on an outreach mission in Lagos when the attack occurred."
"Our people's blood is spilled on foreign soil. Not only because of the actions of criminals, but by the indifference of those pledged to stop them. Victory at the expense of the innocent, is no victory at all."
Alyssa came up behind and paused the broadcast. She slid her arms around him from behind and kissed the nape of his neck once. She felt his hand reach up and touch hers.
"I love you." she said quietly looking at him.
"I love you too." he responded. The two stayed in that position for minutes until they heard the broadcast start again from another room.
The two walked to Wandas room. Steve turning off the broadcast as they walked in.
"It's my fault." Wanda said glumly.
"That's not true." Alyssa said walking and sitting next to the girl.
"Turn the TV back on. They're being very specific." she retorted to the two.
"I should've clocked that bomb vest long before you had to deal with it." Steve walks over to the two, "Rumlow said "Bucky" and . . . all of a sudden I was a 16-year-old kid again, in Brooklyn." Steve shook his head sitting down, "And people died. It's on me."
"It's on both of us."
"It's on neither of you. We have to understand that we can't save everyone." she said trying to calm the two.
"This job . . . we try to save as many people as we can. Sometimes that doesn't mean everybody. But if we can't find a way to live with that, next time . . . maybe nobody gets saved." Steve said glumly.
Vision interrupts Wanda and Steve by walking through the wall into Wanda's room.
"Vis! We talked about this." Wanda erupted at Vision.
"Yes, but the door was open so I assumed that . . ." Vision started but instead cleared his throat, "Captain Rogers wished to know when Mr. Stark was arriving."
"Thank you. We'll be right down."
"I'll . . . use the door. Oh, and apparently, he's brought a guest." Vision turning back to the three.
"We know who it is?" Steve asked Vision.
"The Secretary of State." Alyssa said before walking out with Vision.
