(Nee-ka)
Nika stared up at the ceiling.
The cold air breezed over her skin.
Her eyes narrowed in thought.

She felt like a nuisance in her own home.

Disregarded and unwanted. Her family sent those signals again and again. Finally she couldn't ignore them.

Nika sits up and drops the towel from her bare body.
She then proceeds to get dressed into a simple outfit.

She ignores her family as she walks out of the house.
She could never bring herself to calling it her home.
She gets into her Kia soul and drives off to the academy.

She quickly parks and heads in.
Her friend Nessa takes no time to pick up her scent and runs to her.
"Hey. How are you?" She asks.

Nessa notices the sadness in her eyes. And the pain in her voice as she forms her words.
"I'm good. How did the trip go?" Nika asks as they start walking to class.

"It was trash. My brother and my girlfriend tried ripping each others heads off. Ugh, pussy's." She shrugs.
"Oh that sounds eventful."

They step into the classroom.
Nika sees that her seat has been taken by a boy she hasn't seen before.

He sits with his head in a book and unbothered. She goes to sit in one of the empty seats next to him
"Excuse me." She jumps feeling the sudden hot touch along her waist as another simply moves her aside and takes that seat.

And ultimately that results in a third taking the last open seat on side of him.
Nika huffs having to sit in front of the guy with his head in a book.

She hated sitting anywhere other than the last row. Solely because she felt exposed.
In a school like this, and unmarked she couldn't risk any form of exposure.

It was bad enough that she was forced to be here.
Nika could still feel the heat at her hips from that boy's touch.

She wants to look over at him so bad it has her in a state of distraught.
Nika bites her lip and leans against the back of her chair.

She crosses her arms over her chest and forces herself once more to not look.

"Nika." Her eyes dart to MS. Port, her Latin teacher.
She always put Nika on the spot because she expected a lot from her
Much more than what she was willing to give.

"Can you please dissect the sentence on the board for me?" Nika swallowed a groan as she stood up.

Everyone's eyes burned into her as she grabbed chalk.

She scanned over the words,
'et dolor conscientiam.' And then wrote remorse and pain.

"Very good. This is what our next reading will be about." MS. Port says.

As she turns back to her seat, the guy who was once reading was no longer doing so. Now he was staring at her. As their eyes locked his narrowed onto her neck.

He could hear her heart kick up. And he could smell the blood pumping through her veins. He refrained from licking his lips. Instead just went back to his book.
