Opening the doors to the Curative Workshop of Racine was only the beginning of the marvelous journey Katie and C. Margaret were about to embark upon.
Curative Workshop of Racine had taken the Racine community by storm, and soon enough demands for more services came pouring in. Katie and C. Margaret were a little in over their heads with all the demands, so the two leading ladies used their panache and ingenuity to expand the Curative Workshop of Racine by increasing staff, building size, and the number of services, and now they were really cooking with gas. But something was still missing from Curative Workshop of Racine's services...
After having founded and supported the Curative Workshop of Racine for a few years, Katie noticed an unmet growing need in the community to provide more resources for individuals out of work due to injuries. In her eyes, these individuals were capable and suitable for various types of employment, but they did not have the help and resources available to them to prepare for reentering the competitive workforce. In 1958, once again, with the help of the community and C. Margaret Gleave, Katie was able to expand Curative Workshop's basic medical program to include vocational rehabilitation services, which would give individuals out of work due to injuries the chance to build their skills and assess a career path that's right for them.
