Fake It Till You Make It

The first weekend I'm allowed back in my house is a weekend where I will be home alone. My mom and stepdad are having a weekend getaway in some secluded cabin, so I get the whole house to myself. I decide to throw a party. I invite about 50 people more or less. One of them is Leighton. I know we're just in a fake relationship, but kissing made the feelings feel kind of real, I try not to think about it too much. Once everyone arrives, Jaxon and Leighton being two of the first, I pull Leighton to the side to talk to her.

"You know why I invited you here, right?" I ask.

"Because you wanted to." She says.

"Well yeah, but don't you remember what we talked about earlier? In order to make our relationship look real we have to act affectionate at school or in front of people who go to school with us. People from school are here now, so why are you acting so distant?"

"Because James is here, he wouldn't like it if we were being all touchy in front of him."

"I already talked to him about it, he's perfectly fine with it because he knows it's for the fake relationship that's saving your ass from embarrassment." I say.

"Okay." She says.

"So come on then." I say, grabbing her waist and pulling her close. Her muscles are clenched and tight. "Why are you so tense?" I ask.

"I don't know." She says, stepping back.

"I don't understand what the big deal is, we've already made out, you should be comfortable with me by now."

"That's the thing. I think kissing was a mistake. It's all fake anyways, I shouldn't have wasted my first kiss or my first kisses on someone who I don't love and who doesn't love me." She says.

Her words were like stabs. I didn't think kissing each other was a mistake at all, and it hurt that she felt that way.

"Fine, no more kissing. Got it." I say in an annoyed tone as I trot back downstairs to the action of the party.

"Jaxon, wait! Are you mad? Did I say something wrong?" She calls after me.

I don't answer her.
