The car ride is quiet and calm, I feel so much better away from school

Why did he randomly just ask to ditch school with him?

And out of nowhere too...?

He stops at a red light and looks at me, his eyes are glowing and his gaze is on me

I turn away and look out the window, "What time is it?"

Joey takes out his phone, "It's 1:15"

"Oh", I look down

"Are you okay?", he asks

I look at him, "Yeah", I nod

"Why?"

"You seem upset?", he continues driving

I furrow my brows, how can he tell? I've never been upset around him and he can already tell that I am. Is he observing me?

"Why do you say that?"

"I know when someone is upset", he answers

I gulp, "No..."

That takes so much confidence for me to say, especially in moments like these. I have trouble opening up to people but opening up to him seemed a little easy

"Talk to me", he looks at me, "you can tell me anything..."

"You know that, right?", it gets silent

Now I'm just overthinking this, do I really want to open up to Joey?

I mean I hardly know him

"I-"

He can tell I'm getting nervous so he looks away so I can continue

"I don't want to talk about it..."

He nods

"I feel like it won't even matter so I'm just going to keep it to myself, do you really care about some stupid girl drama?", I look scoff

Joey looks at me, "Lauren, I do care"

My heart skips a beat

"I care about you, I care about whatever's on your mind, I want to know if you're okay",he puts his hand on mine

His gaze is already on me before I turn to look at him," I broke off a friendship of mine over some boy who I don't even know...She told me to stay away from him but-"

He doesn't know this "boy" is about him...I feel bad for lying about this but I can't let him know. It will look like I am trying to make him look bad with the title "bad boy", or whatever Allison calls him

"-But I want to get to know him", I turn away from his gaze on me

"Our friendship ended over that argument ...well I guess", I fidget with the string on my hoodie

"And what happened in the cafeteria today...", I look at him, "was so embarrassing"

"I got called out by one of her friends for staring at her table, it's  stupid. It really is, I don't know why I'm letting this get to me"
